A two-seat reception sofa in gilded solid teak with deep-buttoned maroon velvet. It is built for the front of a room - a wedding reception, an engagement, a hotel or showroom entrance, or a drawing room where a seat has to be the first thing anyone sees.

Master Indian artisans carve the frame by hand from seasoned solid teak. The crest and the scrolls flanking the back are cut from solid stock rather than applied, and the gilding is laid over them so the ornament frames the velvet instead of competing with it.

The sofa is made to order. Choose the velvet, the gold or silver tone, the seat width and the crest height, and set the button and stone detail. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production. It comes with a 20-year warranty on the teak frame and joinery, a lifetime warranty against termite damage, free PAN-India delivery with guaranteed dent-free arrival, and multi-layer protective packaging.

The back of this sofa comes to a point at the top, and that point decides where every button below it goes.

On a rectangular back the buttoning is set out from the seat upward - it is the simplest datum and nothing above cares. Here it cannot be. If the grid starts at the bottom, whatever row happens to arrive near the apex will land at an arbitrary place, and you will end up with either a button sitting slightly off the centreline at the point, or a gap where the eye expects one. Either reads instantly as wrong, because the apex is exactly where a viewer looks first.

So the setting out is inverted. The topmost button is placed first, dead on the vertical centre line, a fixed distance below the point. The grid is then built downward and outward from it, and any leftover fraction is absorbed at the bottom edge - which is hidden behind the seat cushion where nothing shows.

It means the whole diamond pattern hangs from the apex rather than standing on the seat. That is why the point of this back looks resolved instead of accidental, and why the centre column of buttons runs true all the way up into it.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans, with traditional joinery at every junction.

Back: shaped back rising to a carved central point, framed by gilded scrollwork, with a deep-buttoned upholstered panel and a set stone at each button.

Arms: rolled and fluted, with carved gilded scrolls at the fronts.

Seat: two-seat sprung and padded platform, undivided across the full width.

Apron: carved gilded scrolling foliage along the front rail.

Legs: carved cabriole legs.

Upholstery: maroon velvet as photographed. Any velvet or fabric can be used instead, including your own material.

Finish: hand-applied gold on the carving. Silver, champagne, antiqued gold or plain polished teak are also available.

Size: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are of the actual product, not renders.

The gilded scrolls that frame the back stand clear of the upholstery on both sides, which makes them the most exposed parts of the sofa and the first thing a carton would press against.

Each scroll gets a shaped foam collar, and a foam frame runs around the whole outer edge of the back so side loads are taken at the perimeter rather than across the carving. The carved point at the apex gets its own collar. The apron is protected with a continuous foam strip along its full length, and the arm scrolls and leg tips are collared individually.

A soft non-abrasive layer covers all the gilded surfaces and the velvet first, so nothing coarse touches either. Corrugated panels then build a rigid shell around the sofa, with the base blocked and braced so its weight rests on the seat frame rather than on the back. The outer carton is edge-reinforced. A breathable cover keeps dust off the velvet without pressing the pile or holding moisture. Everything unwraps by hand.

Free PAN-India delivery is included - no zone rates, no distance surcharge, no freight line at checkout. The sofa reaches Kota for the same cost as Kolhapur.

Dent-free arrival is guaranteed. It leaves in multi-layer protective packaging, travels with handlers briefed on gilded and upholstered furniture, and is checked at every transfer point. If anything is not right when you open it, tell us and we make it right - the guarantee sits with us, not with the transporter.

Because it is made to order, production begins once your velvet, finish and measurements are confirmed in writing. If the sofa is for a fixed date, tell us at enquiry and we will confirm in writing whether the timeline can be met before you commit. You get updates through carving, gilding and upholstery, and a dispatch note with an expected delivery window so you can plan around it.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty. That covers the shaped back frame and the joints holding it upright, the seat frame and its springing platform, the arm structures and the carved legs. If a joint opens or a member fails within those twenty years, we repair or replace it.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs alongside it with no end date. Teak's natural oils are what keep termites away, and our seasoning and finishing routine is built around preserving them, so the timber is guaranteed for as long as the sofa is yours.

A reception sofa often lives two lives - a season of functions first, then years in a room at home or in a lobby. The warranty is the same for both. It holds because the sofa is made from start to finish in our own workshop by the master Indian artisans who build every piece we sell, from timber we season ourselves. Registration is automatic with your order.
