An almirah is the everyday word for a wardrobe in most Indian households, and this one is built the way the word implies - solid, carved, meant to be inherited rather than replaced. It is solid teak, hand-carved by master Indian artisans and finished in a natural polish.

Its distinguishing feature is the open bay at one end. Most of what people actually hang up in a day never gets put away properly; an open section with hooks and a fluted back gives that a place to live without opening a door.

The centre door carries a shaped mirror in a carved surround.

Every almirah is made to order and fully customisable. Width, height, depth, door count, the presence and position of the open bay, mirror shape and interior layout are all specified by you, with dimensions confirmed in writing before production.

The solid teak carcass and joinery carry a 20-year warranty plus lifetime cover against termite damage. Delivery is free anywhere in India, guaranteed dent-free.

Opening one end of a wardrobe is a bigger decision than it looks, because a cupboard gets most of its rigidity from being a closed box.

A carcass with four sides and a back resists racking - that is, resists being pushed out of square - because each face braces the others. Take the front off one end to make an open bay and you have removed a whole face from that corner. The remaining structure can lean, and on a tall piece a lean of even a degree shows up immediately in the door gaps of the closed section beside it.

The turned column at the front corner of the bay is the answer, and it is doing real work. It runs full height from the base frame to the cornice, and it is jointed into both rather than sitting between them - so it ties the top of the carcass to the bottom exactly where the missing panel would have. The fluted back of the bay is fitted as a solid panel for the same reason, not as an open back.

Our master Indian artisans size that column from the load, then turn and carve it afterwards. It looks like a decorative post. It is the reason the doors next to it still close properly.

Material: solid teak carcass, doors and frame, hand-carved. No veneer, no engineered board.

Configuration: three closed carved doors with a shaped mirror on the centre door, plus an open hanging bay at one end with a fluted back, turned corner column and hooks.

Structure: the bay's corner column runs full height and is jointed into both the base frame and the cornice, replacing the bracing of the missing door panel.

Carving: moulded and carved door panels, carved mirror surround, carved cornice with crest, shaped carved apron, carved feet.

Finish: warm natural teak polish showing the grain, sealed for durability.

Interior: planned to your requirements - long and short hanging, shelving, drawers, shoe storage, lockable compartments.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production, including access dimensions.

Warranty: 20 years on the solid teak carcass and joinery; lifetime cover against termite damage.

An open bay makes this piece more vulnerable in transit than a fully closed wardrobe, because the open corner has no door face protecting the inside. The bay is therefore filled with shaped supports that brace the column against the back panel, so the corner cannot flex while the crate is handled.

The closed doors are secured and braced, and the mirrored centre door is additionally protected across the full face of its shaped plate.

A soft, clean non-abrasive layer goes against the polished surfaces first - a natural finish shows a scuff as a bright mark in the grain.

The carved cornice and crest, the shaped apron and the feet each receive individually shaped protection, and the turned column is wrapped along its full length.

The carcass enters a rigid outer crate with cushioning on every face, corner protection throughout, and strapping that prevents movement. This is why dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Delivery is free across India - no freight charge, no distance surcharge, and no difference between a metro address and a smaller town.

Because every almirah is made to order, we confirm your finished dimensions and your access dimensions - doorway widths, stair turns, lift size - in writing before production begins. Where access requires it, the piece is built to knock down into sections that assemble in the room, with the open bay kept as one braced unit so its geometry is undisturbed.

Once complete it is packed as described and dispatched with a carrier used to handling large carved furniture and mirror glass. You are contacted ahead of delivery so someone can be present.

Arrival is guaranteed dent-free. If any transit damage has occurred, photograph it while the delivery team is present and contact us - we will resolve it.

The solid teak carcass and its joinery carry a 20-year warranty from the day the almirah reaches you - the frame, the door construction and hinging, the open bay's column and its joints into the base and cornice, the crest joints and the carved feet.

Lifetime cover against termite damage applies for the life of the furniture rather than a fixed number of years. Because the piece is seasoned solid teak throughout - carcass, doors, bay back, hooks rail and internal fittings - there is no board core anywhere for insects to reach, and the timber's own oils deter them.

If a warranty issue arises, send us photographs and we will assess and repair or replace. Door alignment is covered, and so is the structural performance of the open bay: if the carcass ever leans and the door gaps change, that is ours to correct. Both warranties apply anywhere in India and travel with the furniture.
