A luxury diwan in solid teak with a hand-gilded pierced apron and plain blush upholstery.

The apron is the piece. It is carved right through - scrolls, leaves and flowers with open ground between them - and it runs the entire length of the side rather than being confined to a panel at the centre, so light passes behind it and the diwan reads as raised off the floor.

Above it, the back rises at the head into a carved and pierced crest and falls away along the length, leaving the seat open at the foot.

The covering is plain and smooth, in a pale blush that keeps the gold as the strongest element, finished with a hand-stitched braid along every line where fabric meets wood.

A bolster and a round tasselled cushion sit at the head, and the diwan stands on carved gilded legs.

Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

The braid that runs along every line where the covering meets the gilded wood is stitched on by hand, and it would be far quicker to glue it.

Braid has a job: it covers the line of tacks that hold the covering to the frame, and it makes a clean edge between fabric and show wood. On most furniture it is simply glued down, and on most furniture that is fine.

Not here. This frame is gilded, and gilding is a thin surface over a prepared ground. Adhesive on gold does not stay on the braid - it bonds to the leaf. When the braid is eventually replaced, and it will be, because braid is the first thing on any upholstered piece to fade or fray, pulling it off takes the gilding with it. What was a simple job becomes a re-gilding job.

So the braid here is stitched, with a curved needle, through the edge of the braid and into the covering behind it, close enough that no stitch shows. Nothing touches the gold at all.

When the time comes, the stitching is cut and the braid lifts away, leaving the gilded surface exactly as it was.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved, with hand-applied gold leaf over the whole show frame.

Apron: pierced carved apron of scrolls, leaves and flowers running the full length of the side and up into the arm.

Back: carved and pierced crest at the head, falling along the length to an open foot.

Upholstery: plain smooth covering with hand-stitched braid at every wood-to-fabric line.

Seat: full-length cushion with a rounded end, on a sprung and webbed platform.

Cushions: bolster and round tasselled cushion at the head.

Legs: hand-carved and gilded legs.

Handing: built with the high end to the left or the right, to your requirement.

Made to order: length, back height, seat depth, handing, finish and covering are all customisable. Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

The pierced apron is the most exposed element on this piece. Foam is pressed into each opening in the piercing so the carving is supported from behind, tissue is laid over the gilding, and the apron is then blocked along its whole length so nothing can press against a leaf tip.

The pierced crest is protected the same way and boxed separately where the design allows.

The rest of the gilded frame takes acid-free tissue directly against the gold, then shaped foam padding, then bubble wrap.

The pale upholstery is wrapped in clean breathable cloth - nothing that can transfer colour - then in soft polythene, with no tape on the covering and no pressure on the braid line.

Bolsters and tasselled cushions travel in their own sleeves, tassels wrapped separately so they cannot tangle.

Everything ships in a hardwood crate, corner-protected and marked for orientation. Multi-layer protective packaging is included on every order at no extra cost.

Delivery is free anywhere in India, with guaranteed dent-free arrival. There is no distance charge, no size charge and no handling fee.

Production begins once your length, handing and covering are confirmed in writing. We photograph your actual diwan through the build - the frame in the white, the apron pierced and carved, the gold leaf, the covering and the braid stitched, and the finished piece.

Our team carries the diwan in, fits the legs if they have travelled separately, sets and levels it, and places the cushions.

Send us lift dimensions, stair turns and doorway widths ahead of dispatch so the route can be planned. Every photograph on this page is of the actual product, not a render.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - the seat rails, the back frame, the crest, the arm frame, the apron and the leg joints, along with every joint between them.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the diwan and never expires. Teak's own oils are its first protection and our warranty is what stands behind them.

The sprung and webbed platform and the upholstery work are covered against manufacturing defect.

The braid, tassels, covering and gilding materials used on your diwan are all recorded against your order number. Because the braid is stitched rather than glued, replacing it later is a straightforward job that leaves the gilding untouched - and having the original trim on file is what makes a like-for-like replacement possible. Contact us with your order number and we will arrange it.

Because glue on a gilded frame bonds to the gold leaf, so replacing the braid later would damage the gilding. Stitched braid lifts away cleanly when the time comes.
