A red diwan in solid teak with a polished walnut show frame and deep buttoned velvet upholstery.

The back rises through a curved buttoned panel to a small carved crest at the head, then sweeps down along the length to a low back at the foot. A rolled arm sits at the head end and the foot is left open.

The velvet is deep red and the buttoning is set in a regular diamond field across the whole back.

The seat is a single long cushion with a rounded end, left plain so it does not compete with the buttoning above it.

Below, a shaped apron carries a carved shell at its centre, and the diwan stands on carved cabriole legs.

Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Before any timber is cut for a diwan like this, the whole piece is drawn full size on a board.

Not sketched, and not scaled - drawn at its actual dimensions, in a single elevation: the sweep of the back, the curve of the arm, the line of the seat rail, the splay of each leg, all at the size they will be made.

The reason is that curves lie at small scale. A back sweep that looks graceful on a drawing an arm's length across can turn out heavy or mean when it is built at full size, and a leg splay that reads elegant on paper can look unstable in the room. Drawn full size, those errors are obvious immediately and can be corrected with a pencil rather than with timber.

The full-size drawing then becomes the working reference. Templates for the shaped members are taken directly off it, joints are marked from it, and any member can be laid onto it during the build to check it against the intended line.

On a heavily carved piece, ornament forgives a slightly wrong curve. On a plain one like this, nothing does - so the drawing is where the piece is actually designed.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-shaped, with a polished walnut-toned show frame around the back, arm, seat rail and legs.

Back: deep buttoned, curved at the head and sweeping down to a low foot, with a carved crest above.

Arm: rolled and upholstered at the head, with a carved scroll where it meets the seat rail.

Seat: single full-length plain cushion with a rounded end, on a sprung and webbed platform.

Apron: shaped, with a carved central shell.

Legs: hand-shaped cabriole legs.

Cushions: small bolster at the head.

Handing: built with the high end to the left or the right, to your requirement.

Made to order: length, back height, seat depth, handing, timber tone and covering are all customisable. Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

A polished show frame shows a scuff in its sheen even where there is no dent, so acid-free tissue is laid directly against every polished surface first, then foam padding shaped along the mouldings, then bubble wrap.

The carved crest, the arm scroll and the apron shell are the only projecting elements and each is given individual foam blocking.

The velvet is wrapped in breathable cloth laid with the pile, then in soft polythene, with no pressure across the buttoned back.

The bolster travels in its own sleeve.

The cabriole legs are detached where the design allows, sleeved in foam and boxed with blocking at the ankle.

The diwan ships in a hardwood crate with corner protection at every arris and clear orientation and lift markings. Multi-layer protective packaging is included on every order at no extra cost.

Delivery is free anywhere in India, with guaranteed dent-free arrival. No distance charge, no size charge and no handling fee.

Production begins once your length, handing and covering are confirmed in writing. We photograph your actual diwan through the build - the full-size setting out, the frame in the white, the polish, the buttoning pulled, and the finished piece.

Our team carries the diwan in, fits the legs if they have travelled separately, sets and levels it, and places the bolster.

Send us lift dimensions, stair turns and doorway widths ahead of dispatch so the route can be planned. Every photograph on this page is of the actual product, not a render.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - the seat rails, the back frame, the arm, the apron and the leg joints, along with every joint between them.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the diwan and never expires. Teak's own oils are its first protection and our warranty is what stands behind them.

The sprung and webbed platform and the buttoning work are covered against manufacturing defect.

The polish specification and the covering are recorded against your order number, and the full-size setting-out drawing for your diwan is kept as well. If a shaped member ever needed to be remade, it would be made to the same drawing rather than to a fresh interpretation. Contact us with your order number and we will arrange it.
