A bedroom diwan in solid teak with a white and gold carved frame and a rose tapestry covering.

The back rises at the head into a carved and gilded rail, sweeps down along the length and finishes at an open foot, with the seat running full length and curving round at its end.

The same tapestry covers everything - back, arm, seat, bolster and outer faces - which is why the way it is cut and laid matters more here than on a two-fabric piece.

Gold is confined to the carving, so the pale frame outlines the pattern rather than competing with it.

Below the seat, a carved and gilded apron runs the length of the front, and the diwan stands on carved cabriole legs with gilded knees.

Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Covering a whole diwan in one large-repeat tapestry is a cutting problem before it is an upholstery problem, and it is solved on the cloth with chalk.

A tapestry like this has a repeat that may be as large as a cushion. Cut the panels economically - nesting them to waste as little cloth as possible, which is how most fabric is cut - and the pattern falls wherever it falls. One rose lands dead centre on the seat, another is cut in half at the front edge, and two identical clusters end up sitting side by side on the back. Nothing is technically wrong and the whole piece looks accidental.

So the cloth is laid out full length and the entire piece is planned on it first: seat, back, arm, outer faces and bolster all chalked in position before a single cut is made. The main motif is centred on the seat and again on the back; panels that will sit next to each other are taken from different parts of the repeat so no cluster is doubled; and cuts are placed so that no flower is severed at a visible edge.

It uses noticeably more cloth than cutting economically. It is the difference between fabric applied to furniture and fabric that looks woven for it.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved, finished in soft off-white with hand-applied gold on the carving.

Back: high at the head with a carved gilded rail, sweeping to an open foot.

Upholstery: single tapestry covering throughout, cut to a full chalked plan with the main motif centred on the seat and the back.

Seat: full-length cushion with a rounded end, on a sprung and webbed platform.

Arm: scrolled and carved at the head end.

Cushions: matching bolster.

Apron and legs: carved gilded apron running the length of the front, on carved cabriole legs with gilded knees.

Handing: built with the head to the left or the right, to your requirement.

Made to order: length, back height, seat depth, handing, finish and covering are all customisable. Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Tapestry is a heavier, textured cloth than most upholstery fabrics, and it holds a crush mark, so nothing bears on it in transit.

The upholstery is wrapped in clean breathable cloth and then soft polythene, loosely, with all strapping taken around the frame rails only.

The pale carved frame takes acid-free tissue directly against the finish, then foam padding shaped along the mouldings, then bubble wrap. The gilded carving - back rail, arm scroll, apron and leg knees - is given individual foam blocking so nothing presses on the raised work.

The bolster travels in its own sleeve.

Legs are detached where the design allows, sleeved in foam and boxed with blocking at the ankle.

The diwan ships in a hardwood crate with corner protection at every arris and orientation and lift points marked. Multi-layer protective packaging is included on every order at no extra cost.

Delivery is free anywhere in India, with guaranteed dent-free arrival. No distance charge, no size charge and no handling fee.

Production begins once your length, handing and covering are confirmed in writing. We photograph your actual diwan through the build - the frame in the white, the carving and gilding, the cloth chalked out with the cutting plan before it is cut, and the finished piece.

Our team carries the diwan in, fits the legs if they have travelled separately, sets and levels it, and places the bolster.

Send us lift dimensions, stair turns and doorway widths ahead of dispatch so the route can be planned. Every photograph on this page is of the actual product, not a render.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty - the seat rails, the back frame, the arm scroll, the apron and the leg joints, along with every joint between them.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the diwan and never expires. Teak's own oils are its own defence and our warranty stands behind them.

The sprung and webbed platform and the upholstery work are covered against manufacturing defect.

The covering is recorded against your order number together with the cutting plan used - which panel came from which part of the repeat. On a large-repeat tapestry that record is the only way a single replaced panel can be made to sit correctly among the others. Contact us with your order number and we will arrange it.
