Overview of this ivory carved luxury bed

This luxury bed is built in solid teak, hand carved in a French idiom and finished in ivory with pale highlights picked out along the carving. The headboard is a shaped panel with pearl-toned tufting under a carved crest; the footboard is low and serpentine with a medallion at its centre; carved cabriole legs carry the whole frame clear of the floor.

The low footboard and the raised legs together are what keep this design from feeling bulky. Floor is visible under the bed and through the foot of the room, which makes the piece read lighter than its size suggests and makes cleaning underneath possible without moving it.

Ivory is a warmer, softer white and it forgives more than a pure white does, both visually and in maintenance. It suits bedrooms with cream or beige walls, warm lighting and wooden or light stone flooring. Matching bedside chests can be built alongside, and custom sizes are made to order in king size, queen size, double or any dimension you specify.

The story of how high a bed should be

Beds have moved up and down for centuries, and always for reasons that had nothing to do with sleep. Medieval and early modern beds sat high because the floor was cold, damp and occupied by animals and servants, and because a trundle bed had to slide underneath. Height was safety and status, and steps beside a bed were an ordinary piece of furniture.

Then the twentieth century pushed beds down. Central heating, clean floors and modernist taste produced the low platform bed, and mattresses grew thicker at the same time, which quietly raised the sleeping surface back up again. The result is that published frame heights stopped meaning much: two identical frames with different mattresses can differ by a foot.

Our artisans work from the finished height instead. We ask what mattress you are using and what height you want to sit at, and we set the rail position and leg height so the top of the mattress lands there. It is an unglamorous calculation done before any carving begins, and it is the difference between a bed you can live with and a beautiful one you climb into.

Specification

  • Frame: solid teak wood, hand carved throughout
  • Finish: ivory with pale highlights along the carved detail
  • Headboard: shaped carved crest above a pearl-toned tufted panel
  • Footboard: low serpentine footboard with a carved medallion cartouche
  • Legs: carved cabriole legs raising the frame clear of the floor
  • Finished height: set to your chosen mattress-top height before production
  • Upholstery: pearl tone, with material and colour customisable
  • Side tables: matching two-drawer bedside chests available in the same finish
  • Sizes: king size, queen size, double or fully custom sizes made to order
  • Construction: made to order, handcrafted by master Indian artisans

We do not publish a fixed height, length or weight, because the finished height depends on your mattress and your preference. Send the mattress thickness and dimensions with your room plan and we will confirm every finished measurement in writing before production begins.

Packaging

The carved cabriole legs on this bed are the components most at risk in transit, because a curved leg concentrates any impact at the ankle of the curve. Each leg is padded individually along its length with additional foam at the narrowest section, and the frame is crated so that no load bears on the legs.

The upholstered headboard panel is wrapped in a breathable undyed cloth with foam laid over the buttons, so nothing presses into the tufting. The ivory finish is wrapped in clean undyed material only, with no printed or dyed packing touching a finished surface and no adhesive tape applied to the piece.

Everything travels in a wooden crate built for this bed, internally braced so no component can move. Assembly hardware is bagged, labelled and secured inside the crate with the assembly sequence. Crate dimensions can be confirmed to you before dispatch if your lift or staircase is restricted.

Shipping

We deliver this bed across India and accept international orders. It is made to order, so dispatch follows the production window confirmed to you in writing at the time of order.

Indian deliveries travel by covered transport with the crate braced against movement, delivered to your address. The carved headboard is the largest single component; confirm lift dimensions and staircase turns before production so we can plan for access, and where necessary the headboard can be built to separate at a concealed joint.

Home assembly is arranged in most Indian cities. Bring the mattress to the room before the assembly team leaves if you can, because that is the moment to check the finished height against what you expected, while adjustment is still simple. International orders are quoted per destination with export-grade crating and full documentation; destination duties and taxes are the buyer's responsibility.

Warranty

Brown Rabbit warrants the solid teak frame, the carved legs, the joinery and the hand carving against manufacturing defects. Leg failure through a fault in timber selection or in the making is covered, and on a bed with carved cabriole legs that is the cover worth having.

Upholstery workmanship on the headboard panel, including button seating and panel tension, is warranted against defects. Fabric wear, staining, marks from hair oil or cosmetics and fading in sunlight are not covered, as these follow use and placement rather than manufacture.

The ivory finish is warranted against flaking or lifting caused by defective application. Gradual warming of the ivory tone with age and light is expected in a hand-applied finish and is not a defect. Damage from moisture, chemical cleaners, sitting or standing on the footboard, independently arranged transport, or repairs attempted by others falls outside the warranty. Full terms are issued in writing with your order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

The comfortable test is that when you sit on the edge, your feet rest flat on the floor with your knees at roughly a right angle. That depends on your height, not on a standard. Since mattress thickness varies enormously between brands, we set the frame so the finished mattress top lands where you want it.

Yes, and it is the most overlooked variable in buying a bed. A thin mattress and a thick pillow-top mattress on the same frame can differ by close to a foot at the sleeping surface. Always tell the maker which mattress you are buying, or the frame is being built to a guess.

A higher bed is easier to get in and out of, which matters more with age or with a knee or back problem, and it leaves usable space underneath. A lower bed suits younger households and small rooms, since it makes the ceiling feel higher. Neither is correct in general; both are correct for particular people.

Yes. Hydraulic lift storage or side drawers can be built into the base while keeping the carved cabriole legs and the ivory finish as shown. Adding a storage box does raise the finished height, so tell us at the outset if you want storage, since that changes the leg and rail calculation from the start.

Yes, in practice. Ivory hides dust, scuffs and hand marks better than a pure white, and it mellows more gracefully with age because it is already a warm tone. Both need the same care: dry dusting of the carving, a barely damp cloth on flat surfaces, and no household sprays.

King size, queen size, double or any custom dimension. The frame is built around your mattress, so we ask for exact mattress length, width and thickness before production and confirm the finished internal opening, external footprint and height to you in writing before any carving begins.
