Overview of this heart carved luxury bed

This luxury bed is built in solid teak, hand carved and finished in cream with gold picked out along the raised edges of the carving. The headboard is a pearl tufted panel under a pierced crest centred on a carved heart; the footboard repeats the heart within a moulded panel; the frame stands on carved cabriole legs. Two matching bedside chests are supplied with it.

The gold here is used as an edge highlight rather than as a full finish, so the piece reads cream at a distance and reveals the gold only close up. That restraint is what makes it work in a bedroom that will be lived in for years rather than photographed once, which is a real consideration for a wedding purchase.

The motif is not fixed. Our artisans carve to drawing, so the heart can be replaced with a floral, foliate or family motif, or with initials, without changing the rest of the design. Custom sizes are made to order in king size, queen size, double or a dimension you specify.

The story of the bed as a wedding gift

Across Indian communities the bed has a specific place in marriage customs, and it is one of the few pieces of furniture with a ceremony attached to it. In many households the bed for the couple's room is given by one family and decorated by the other, and the room itself is prepared and dressed before the couple ever enters it. The furniture is doing social work, not just holding a mattress.

What is unusual about this tradition is its time horizon. A wedding bed is expected to last the marriage. It is the piece that moves house with the couple, that is repolished when the room is redone, and that is often still in use when the next generation's furniture is being chosen. Very little else bought during a wedding is bought with that expectation.

Our artisans carve these beds knowing where they are going. The heart at the crest is cut in the round rather than routed flat, the pierced sections are cut through by hand, and the whole piece is built with joints that can be knocked apart and re-wedged decades from now. Handcrafted Indian luxury made for a wedding room has to survive the whole marriage, which is a harder brief than looking good on the day.

Packaging

The pierced crest and the carved heart project further than any other part of this bed, so both are packed first and separately. The openwork is supported with foam from both faces so no load crosses an unsupported span, and the heart is individually padded before the general wrap goes on.

Only clean undyed materials touch the cream finish, since printed packing can transfer onto a pale surface, and no adhesive tape is applied to any finished or upholstered face. The tufted panel is covered with a breathable cloth and foam laid over the buttons so the tufting is never compressed.

Where the bed is going into a wedding room, tell us and we will pack for storage as well as for transit, since these beds frequently arrive days before they are needed and sit crated in a corner. Crates are built for the individual pieces, internally braced, with hardware bagged and labelled inside the main crate.

Shipping

We deliver across India and accept international orders. This bed is made to order and hand carved, so the production window is measured in weeks. If you need it in the room by a fixed date, tell us that date at enquiry and we will tell you plainly whether it is achievable rather than accepting the order and missing it.

Indian deliveries move by covered transport with crates braced against movement, delivered to your address. The carved headboard with its crest is the tallest component; confirm your lift height and staircase turns before production, and where access is restricted the crest can be built to detach at a joint concealed within the carving.

Home assembly is arranged in most Indian cities. For a wedding room, book assembly for a day or two before it is needed rather than the morning of, so there is time to place the bed properly. International orders are quoted per destination with export-grade crating; duties and taxes at destination are the buyer's responsibility.

Warranty

Brown Rabbit warrants the solid teak frame, the joinery and the hand carving of the bed and both chests against manufacturing defects. If a joint loosens, a leg fails, a drawer runner gives way or a carved element cracks because of a fault in the making, we repair or replace it. Because the bed is built to be dismantled, most structural repairs can be carried out in your home.

Upholstery workmanship, including button seating and panel tension, is warranted against defects. Fabric wear, staining, marks from hair oil or cosmetics and fading in direct sunlight are not covered.

The cream and gold finish is warranted against flaking or lifting caused by defective application, and can be blended and repaired in place if scratched. Breakage of pierced carving through impact, or from lifting the bed by its crest, is not covered; always lift by the frame. Damage from moisture, chemical cleaners, independently arranged transport or third-party repairs is outside the warranty. Full terms are issued in writing with your order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

Weeks, not days. A hand carved bed of this kind takes several weeks of carving alone, plus finishing, upholstery and transport. Give us your required date at enquiry and we will tell you whether it is achievable. If it is not, we will say so rather than take the order and miss the date.

It is one of the most common and most enduring, because unlike almost everything else bought for a wedding it is expected to last the marriage. It moves house with the couple, gets repolished when the room is redone, and is often still in use a generation later, provided it is solid timber rather than board.

Yes. Our artisans carve to drawing, so the heart can be replaced with a floral, foliate or family motif, or with initials, without altering the rest of the design. Send a reference image and we will tell you honestly whether it suits the proportions of the crest before you commit.

Before, with a day or two of margin. Assembly of a carved bed with side tables takes time, and the room usually needs to be dressed afterwards. Booking delivery for the morning of the event leaves no room for a delayed truck or a lift that turns out to be too small.

The gold is used as an edge highlight rather than a full finish, so the bed reads cream at a distance and the detail only shows close up. That restraint is deliberate. If you want it quieter still, we can finish it entirely in cream, or in ivory or antique white, with no gold at all.

King size where the room allows it, since a queen becomes tight for two adults over years rather than nights. What matters more is clear floor on both sides and past the foot. Send us the room dimensions and we will tell you which size actually fits rather than which one you would prefer to hear.
