The Story Behind This Bed

Draped beds have a long history in both European and Indian tradition, and there are three ways to achieve the effect - worth knowing before you choose.

A four poster carries four corner posts and a full canopy frame. It is the most dramatic and the most demanding: it needs real ceiling height, a room large enough that the posts do not dominate, and it cannot be moved easily once assembled.

A half tester extends a canopy over the head of the bed only, supported from the headboard or the wall. Less imposing, still substantial.

A corona, as here, is a small crown-shaped fitting mounted on the wall above the bed, from which fabric drapes outward and down. It is by far the most practical - no posts, no floor footprint, minimal ceiling demand - and it produces most of the visual effect of a canopy for a fraction of the space.

The corona is carved and gilded as a separate piece and fitted to your wall at a height set by your ceiling. The drapery is hung from it, so it can be replaced or changed with the seasons without touching the bed.

Packaging and Transit Protection

This piece ships as several separate consignments: headboard, base, side rails, platform, corona, drapery and fittings. The corona is small, ornate and entirely pierced carving - the most fragile single component we ship on any bed - so it travels in its own foam-lined box with the carving cradled rather than compressed, and is never packed inside a larger crate where it could be crushed.

The shell headboard is large, shaped and carries upholstered panels within carved frames; it travels flat in a cross-braced crate with rigid boards on both faces, with the tufted panels protected by standoff blocking bridging over the buttons. Drapery is folded with tissue between layers and bagged separately so it arrives without hard creases. Side rails are edge-protected along their length. Fittings bagged, labelled and packed with the assembly and corona-fixing drawings. All crates corner-guarded, marked for orientation, photographed sealed before dispatch.

Shipping and Delivery

Before manufacture we need your exact mattress dimensions, your ceiling height, and confirmation of the wall construction above the bed - the corona needs a solid fixing, and knowing the wall type in advance prevents an awkward conversation on installation day. Typical lead time is 11 to 13 weeks from order confirmation, longer with matching cabinets, since the corona, headboard and drapery are three separate production streams that must finish together.

Delivery is free anywhere in India - Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and elsewhere. Our team assembles the bed in the room, fixes and levels the corona to your wall at the correct height, hangs and dresses the drapery, and removes all packaging. Craftsmanship Assurance and Care

Our craftsmanship assurance covers the solid teak frame, its joinery, the carved corona and the hand-carving. If a joint works loose, the corona fitting fails or a carved element separates because of a fault in the making - rather than through impact, misuse or an attempted self-repair - we repair or replace it. Upholstery, drapery and foam are consumable components covered separately.

The corona is a wall fitting carrying fabric weight, so it must be fixed into solid masonry or a structural fixing, never into hollow plasterboard alone - our team fits it, and if you ever move the bed, have it refitted rather than reusing old holes. Take the drapery down for cleaning at least annually; fabric hung above a bed collects dust heavily and it is the part people forget. Dust the gilded carving with a dry soft brush only. Vacuum the tufted headboard panels with a brush attachment and a soft brush around the buttons. Keep the ivory finish out of direct sunlight, which yellows it.
