A round canopy bed gives a bedroom a centre and a ceiling of its own. This one is built in solid teak with four barley-twist columns in gold, an oval carved canopy above and a raised circular plinth below, with a buttoned headboard in white and gold.

Diameter and height are the two numbers that matter, and both are yours. We build the circle to your room and set the column height so the canopy clears your ceiling comfortably. Send us your ceiling measurement along with the floor space and we design the proportions around them. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed with you in writing before production begins.

The canopy can carry fabric if you want it - curtain rods, a draped valance or a fitted panel across the underside - or stay open as shown.

Finish is open too: white with gold as pictured, or ivory, champagne, silver, or natural teak tones. A circular mattress made to your diameter can be arranged with the bed.

This is handcrafted Indian luxury from master Indian artisans. Solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty, the bed is covered for life against termite damage, and delivery across India is free with guaranteed dent-free arrival.

The barley twist is one of the few turned forms that cannot be produced by turning alone. A lathe gives you the tapering profile; the spiral has to be laid out along the length and then cut and filed by hand, following a line drawn around the column. Every twist on a set of four has to keep the same pitch, or the columns disagree with each other at a glance.

It became popular in the seventeenth century and stayed because of what it does to light: a spiral has no flat face, so it is lit on one side and shadowed on the other continuously up its height, which makes a column look alive rather than static.

Setting four of them under an oval rather than a rectangle is the harder arrangement. The canopy frame is a continuous curve, so each column meets it at a slightly different angle, and the joints have to be cut individually. Our master Indian artisans build the oval first and fit the columns to it, never the other way round - the only way to keep the canopy true.

Material: Solid teak throughout, including plinth, columns, canopy frame, headboard and bedside chests.

Columns: Four barley-twist columns cut by hand along their full height, with carved panelled bases and moulded collars.

Canopy: Oval frame with a carved running scroll and rosette frieze, framed by gilded mouldings above and below.

Base: Raised circular plinth with moulded edge, carrying the bed clear of the floor.

Headboard: Buttoned upholstered panel with shaped arched top in a carved scroll frame rising to a pierced crest.

Finish: Shown in white with gold, and available in ivory, champagne, silver or natural teak tones.

Canopy fabric: Curtain rods, a draped valance or a fitted underside panel can all be added.

Mattress: Circular mattress made to the same diameter can be arranged.

Sizes: Custom diameters and column heights made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Barley-twist columns have no flat surface anywhere along their length, so each is wrapped in a soft layer that follows the spiral and then cradled in a shaped support inside its own long box. Nothing clamps across the twist.

The oval canopy travels as a shaped assembly, crated to its own curve rather than forced into a rectangular box, with the carved frieze foam-faced along its whole length and the gilded mouldings edge-guarded.

The circular plinth is heavy and is boxed separately, marked for multiple-person handling, with its moulded edge protected all round.

The headboard's pierced crest is supported from both faces and the buttoned panel bagged in a breathable cover. Gilded surfaces are covered in a non-abrasive layer first, since gold leaf marks under friction. Chests travel with drawers secured and legs collared. Everything is crated together with handling instructions. Every photograph here shows the actual bed before packing - not a render.

Delivery is free anywhere in India and included in the price you are quoted, with no freight, packing or handling charge appearing later.

Production starts once your diameter, column height and finish are confirmed in writing. We give you a realistic timeline then and send photographs of your own bed as the twists are cut and the canopy assembled.

On arrival the bed is carried in and assembled in your room: plinth positioned and levelled, bed set on it, columns stood and the canopy seated and trued. Tell us your ceiling height and access when you order, since the columns are long single components and the canopy is one large curve. We guarantee dent-free arrival, and if anything is not right when you see it, tell us and we will put it right.

The solid teak frame and joinery are covered for 20 years, and on this bed the warranty is standing behind something specific: the joints where four columns meet a curved canopy overhead. Those are cut individually because each meets the oval at its own angle, and they carry the canopy for the life of the bed.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with it for as long as you own the piece, backed by teak's natural resistance and set out in writing.

Because we keep the specification of your exact bed on file - diameter, column height, canopy dimensions - anything added later fits it: curtain rods and fabric fitted years after delivery, replacement fittings, or another matching piece for the room. The finish can be cleaned back and re-laid, and the headboard re-covered to the same buttoning. Our own master Indian artisans do the work and explain it beforehand.
