Overview

This is a handcrafted solid teak wood TV unit console finished in a deep dark polish, laid out as a three-drawer bank above a lower tier of two glazed display cabinets and a central open media bay with two shelves. The design language is traditional English colonial: restrained panelled surfaces, carved acanthus corbels standing at the front corners, a carved gadrooned moulding running the length of the plinth, carved bun feet, and antique-finish bail drawer pulls. The ornament is placed at the corners and the base rather than spread across the fronts, which keeps the piece calm despite its size.

It suits a living room, a main hall, a study or a media room, and works with the television standing on the top or wall-mounted above. The dark polish makes it the right choice against pale walls and light flooring where a mid-brown piece would recede, and it sits naturally with leather upholstery and traditional interiors. Glazed doors mean the display bays stay dust-free while remaining visible - a practical advantage over solid doors in Indian homes.

The Story Behind This TV Unit

Storage furniture is judged on how it works after five years, not how it looks on day one, and the parts that decide that are the ones nobody photographs: the drawer runners, the door hinges, the way the carcass is braced across a long span.

So this console is built as cabinetmaking first. The carcass is framed and panelled in seasoned solid teak rather than slab-built, so the panels can move fractionally within their frames as humidity changes instead of forcing the joints apart. The three drawers are fitted individually to their own openings - a drawer that runs sweetly in one aperture will bind in the next, so each is planed to its own - and the runners are set in solid stock.

Only then does the decorative work happen. The acanthus corbels are carved from the solid and applied at the corners, the gadrooned plinth run is cut continuously along the base, and the bun feet are turned and then carved. The glazing beads are run and the panes fitted by hand. Finally the dark polish is built up in coats and cut back between them, so the depth comes from layers rather than from a single dark stain.

Factual specification for this handcrafted teak wood TV unit with storage:

  • Material: Solid teak wood, hand-carved (no veneer, no engineered wood, no PVC)
  • Style: Traditional English colonial media console with glazed display cabinets
  • Finish: Deep dark hand-applied polish built up in coats; customisable to a mid-brown, a warm walnut or a lighter natural teak tone
  • Carved detail: Acanthus corbels at both front corners, gadrooned plinth moulding along the base, carved turned bun feet, panelled carcass, antique-finish bail drawer pulls
  • Storage: Three drawers across the top, two glazed display cabinets with internal shelving, one central open media bay with two ventilated shelves
  • Glazing: Clear glass panes in carved beading; can be specified as clear, frosted, or replaced with solid timber panels
  • Screen: Suits a television standing on the top or wall-mounted above - confirm your screen size at order so the length is proportioned to it
  • Size: Custom sizes made to order - share your wall length and preferred height and we will quote
  • Make: Made to order, handcrafted by master Indian artisans
  • Delivery: Pan-India, free shipping

Packaging and Transit Protection

Three things drive the packing on this console: the glazed doors, the carved bun feet and the large flat polished top. Each glass pane is covered with a shatter-retention film and faced with a rigid board on both sides, and the doors are unshipped where the construction allows and packed flat in their own foam-lined compartment rather than travelling on their hinges.

The bun feet are removed and wrapped individually, since carved feet are the first casualty when a heavy console is set down hard. All three drawers are taken out, wrapped and packed alongside so they cannot slide in their openings. The acanthus corbels and the gadrooned plinth run are foam-wrapped in place and taped clear of the polish, and the top is faced with a soft interleaf across its full area before the foam blanket goes on. The carcass is corner-guarded and blocked into a skidded wooden crate built to the weight, cross-braced, marked for orientation and lifting points, and photographed sealed before dispatch.

Shipping and Delivery

Every console is built after you order. Typical lead time is 6 to 8 weeks from order confirmation, moving to the longer end for a greater length, additional drawers or a bespoke polish tone. The dark polish itself adds time, because depth is built up in coats with each cut back before the next rather than achieved with a single stain. The exact timeline is confirmed in writing at order and we share progress photographs after the carcass is built, after carving and after polishing.

Delivery is free anywhere in India. We arrange transport sized to the crate, and our team unloads, fits the feet, rehangs the doors, refits the drawers, positions the console and levels it at your address rather than leaving crates at the gate. Please confirm doorway and stair widths and lift internal dimensions in advance - this is a heavy piece - and tell us your floor type so we can supply protective pads. International orders are quoted case by case.

Craftsmanship Assurance and Care

Our craftsmanship assurance covers the solid teak carcass, the carving, the joinery, the drawer runners, the door hinges and the foot joints. If a joint opens, a drawer binds, a hinge drops or a carved element separates because of a fault in the making - rather than through impact, misuse, water damage or an attempted self-repair - we repair or replace it. Glass breakage after delivery sits outside the assurance, though replacement panes can be cut and fitted.

Dust the polished surfaces with a soft dry cloth along the grain and use a clean dry soft brush on the corbels, the gadrooned plinth and the carved feet. Never use water, chemical polish, alcohol or ammonia cleaners on the polish. Clean the glass panes by spraying cleaner onto the cloth, never onto the glass, so nothing runs into the beading and behind the pane. Use coasters and mats on the top and never let a hot appliance or a wet glass stand directly on it. Do not overload the drawers or exceed the stated shelf loads. Keep the piece out of direct sunlight, which lightens a dark polish unevenly and irreversibly.

Everything you need to know about this product.

Three full-width drawers across the top, two glazed display cabinets with internal shelving, and a central open media bay with two ventilated shelves. It is the storage-heaviest TV unit in our range.

Yes. The glazed panels can be specified as clear glass, frosted glass, or replaced entirely with carved or plain solid teak panels. Decide at the order stage since the door frames are built around the choice.

It is made to your size. Tell us your screen size at the order stage and we proportion the length so the console reads correctly beneath the television, whether the screen stands on the top or is wall-mounted above.

Yes. The deep dark polish shown can be taken to a mid-brown, a warm walnut or a lighter natural teak. The dark tone is offered because it holds its own against pale walls and light flooring.
