Overview

This is a handcrafted solid teak wood TV unit console finished in hand-painted cream with parcel gilding - gold applied selectively to the raised carving rather than across the whole piece. The design language is Louis XV: a serpentine shaped top with a gilt moulded edge, two drawers set in carved cartouche surrounds with small gilt pulls, a central open media shelf between them, a deeply pierced rocaille apron of asymmetric C-scrolls and foliage running the full length, and carved cabriole legs with shaped knees, gilt knee carving and scrolled feet.

The low, long proportion makes it the right choice for a living room where the television stands on the unit rather than being wall-mounted, since it puts the screen at seated eye level instead of above it. It also suits a master bedroom, where a low console at the foot of the bed works better than a tall cabinet. The cream and gold finish sits comfortably in pale and mid-toned schemes where a dark polished console would read heavy. Length, height and drawer layout are all made to your room.

The Story Behind This TV Unit

The apron is where this piece is won or lost. A pierced rocaille run along the full length of a console has no support behind it - it is the most exposed carving on any piece of furniture we make, and it sits at knee height where it will be knocked. So the carver reads the grain along the whole run before starting and leaves the ribs running with it, because a rib cut across the grain will break the first time someone catches it with a foot.

Cabriole legs are the other test. A cabriole is shaped in two planes at once - it curves out at the knee and back in at the ankle when viewed from the front and from the side - so it cannot be turned on a lathe and has to be cut by hand from a solid blank. Four of them have to match.

Then the finishing. The cream is built up in thin coats, each cut back before the next, until the colour is dense without drowning the carving - paint that fills detail is the commonest failure in painted furniture. Only then is the gold picked out by hand along the apron scrolls, the cartouche surrounds, the knee carving and the top edge, and rubbed back at the high points.

Factual specification for this handcrafted teak wood Louis XV TV unit console:

  • Material: Solid teak wood, hand-carved (no veneer, no engineered wood, no PVC)
  • Style: Louis XV console, painted and parcel-gilt, low and long proportion
  • Finish: Hand-painted cream built up in thin coats with gold hand-picked on the raised carving; paint colour customisable to ivory, soft grey, pale green, sage or a matched shade, and gold coverage adjustable
  • Carved detail: Deeply pierced rocaille apron running the full length, carved cartouche surrounds to both drawers, carved cabriole legs with gilt knee carving and scrolled feet, serpentine top with gilt moulded edge
  • Storage: Two drawers, one central open ventilated media shelf sized for a set-top box or player
  • Screen: Low proportion suited to a television standing on the top at seated eye level; also works wall-mounted above - confirm your screen size at order so the length is proportioned to it
  • Size: Custom sizes made to order - share your wall length and preferred height and we will quote
  • Make: Made to order, handcrafted by master Indian artisans
  • Delivery: Pan-India, free shipping

Packaging and Transit Protection

Two things dominate the packing: the pierced apron and the cabriole legs. The apron is wrapped in high-density foam along its full length rather than scroll by scroll, so nothing can catch and lever a rib away, and it is then faced with foam sheet on both sides and blocked so no pressure reaches the openwork. The legs are unshipped where the construction allows and wrapped individually - a cabriole leg breaks at the ankle, which is its thinnest section, and is the single most common transit casualty on a console like this.

The whole piece is faced with a soft interleaf before any foam contacts it, because a scuff on flat cream paint is visible from across a room and cannot be touched in invisibly. Both drawers are removed, wrapped and packed alongside rather than travelling in their openings. Everything is corner-guarded and blocked into a fitted wooden crate with foam on every face, marked for orientation, fragility and lifting points, strapped and sealed. We photograph every component wrapped and the crate closed before dispatch.

Shipping and Delivery

Every console is built, carved and finished after you order. Typical lead time is 6 to 8 weeks from order confirmation, with the painting stage taking longer than a polish because the cream is built up in thin coats and cut back between each. A bespoke paint colour adds time for matching and approval before painting begins. The exact timeline is confirmed in writing at order and we share progress photographs after the carcass and legs are made, after the apron is carved, and after the colour and gold are laid.

Delivery is free anywhere in India. We arrange and manage transport, and our team unloads, fits the legs, refits the drawers, positions the console and levels it at your address rather than leaving crates at the gate. Please confirm doorway and stair widths and lift internal dimensions in advance, and tell us your floor type so we can supply protective pads. International orders are quoted case by case on request.

Craftsmanship Assurance and Care

Our craftsmanship assurance covers the solid teak carcass, the carving, the joinery, the drawer runners and - on a cabriole-legged piece especially - the leg joints. If a joint opens, a leg loosens, a drawer runs badly or a carved element separates because of a fault in the making rather than through impact, misuse, water damage or an attempted self-repair, we repair or replace it. Hand-applied paint varies slightly between pieces; that is a characteristic of hand finishing, not a defect.

The pierced apron sits at knee height and is the part most likely to be caught by a foot or a vacuum cleaner - be deliberate around it. Clean it with a clean dry soft brush only; a cloth catches on the scroll ends and can snap one. A soft dry cloth suits the top and the drawer fronts. Never use water, chemical polish, alcohol or ammonia cleaners anywhere on the finish, as solvents lift paint faster than gold and a stripped patch on a flat cream cannot be hidden. Use mats and coasters on the top, do not exceed the stated shelf load, and keep the piece out of direct sunlight, which yellows pale paint over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

Yes. The carcass, drawers, apron and cabriole legs are all genuine solid teak, hand-selected and seasoned before building. Painted furniture is where MDF usually hides, which is exactly why we confirm the wood in writing with your order.

Deliberately. A tall console pushes a television standing on it above comfortable seated eye level. This one is proportioned so the screen lands where you actually watch it from a sofa. The height can still be adjusted to your room.

Yes. The paint can be taken to ivory, soft grey, pale green, sage or a shade matched to your room, and the gold picking increased or reduced. A bespoke colour adds time for matching and approval before painting begins.

Hand-carved and pierced right through the solid teak, with the ribs deliberately run along the grain. That is the only reason a pierced apron survives at knee height, where it will inevitably be caught at some point.

Yes. The central open shelf is sized and ventilated for a set-top box or player, and the two drawers take remotes and cables. Cable routing is cut into the back panel.

Typically 6 to 8 weeks from order confirmation, with the painting stage taking longer than a polish. Shipping is free anywhere in India, and our team fits the legs, refits the drawers and levels the console at your address.
