Overview

This is a handcrafted solid teak wood TV unit in two parts: a shaped decorative back panel and a bow-front media console, both finished in hand-painted ivory with hand-applied gold leaf on the carving. The design language is Venetian Rococo - a pierced gilt crest at the apex, serpentine shaped panel edges carved in gilt scrollwork, a reeded gilt band running beneath the crest, and hand-painted floral sprays laid onto the ivory field. The console below is bow-fronted with three drawers, each carrying a gilt scroll cartouche framing a pierced ventilation grille, standing on a deeply pierced carved base with turned finial supports and a shaped plinth.

It is made for a formal drawing room, a main hall, a large master bedroom or a hospitality interior where the media wall has to be as considered as the rest of the room. The pierced drawer grilles are functional as well as decorative - they let remote signals pass and equipment breathe while keeping boxes and cables out of sight. Because the piece is freestanding rather than built in, it can be repositioned or moved with you.

The Story Behind This TV Unit

Three separate crafts meet on this piece, and the difficulty is making them agree.

The carvers work first. The back panel edges are shaped in serpentine curves and then carved with pierced scrollwork cut clean through, so the wall shows behind it; the crest is carved as its own composition and pierced likewise; the console base is worked into an openwork carved structure that still has to carry three loaded drawers and a television. That last point is the hard one - most decorative pierced bases are cosmetic, and this one is structural.

Then the painters. The ivory is built up in thin coats, each cut back before the next, until the colour is dense without drowning the carving. Only when that ground is right are the floral sprays laid on by hand, freehand, which is why no two panels are identical.

Finally the gilders. Gold leaf is applied by hand to the crest, the scroll edges, the reeded band, the drawer cartouches and the base, then burnished and rubbed back at the high points so the piece reads as aged rather than freshly finished. The unit is dry-assembled and photographed for your approval before it is dismantled for transit.

Packaging and Transit Protection

This unit ships as components in separate crates - the back panel, the console carcass, the pierced base, the drawers and the crest all travel apart. The crest and the pierced scroll edges are the most fragile things in the range: each is wrapped individually in high-density foam shaped around the openwork rather than pressed flat against it, and taped clear of the finish so no adhesive touches paint or gold leaf.

The painted ivory panel is faced with a soft interleaf across its full area before any foam contacts it, because a scuff on flat ivory cannot be touched in invisibly and a painted floral spray cannot be repainted to match. The drawers are removed and wrapped separately; the turned finial supports are unshipped where possible. Everything is blocked into fitted wooden crates with foam on every face, cross-braced, marked for orientation, fragility and lifting points. We photograph every component wrapped and each crate sealed before dispatch.

Shipping and Delivery

This is the most involved piece in the TV unit range - carving, piercing, painting, freehand floral work and gilding, across two components that must match. Typical lead time is 8 to 12 weeks from order confirmation, extending if you enlarge the panel, change the paint colour or specify different painted detail, since a bespoke colour and floral brief both require matching and approval before work begins. The unit is dry-assembled and photographed for your sign-off before it is dismantled for transit.

Delivery is free anywhere in India. Our team transports, unloads and assembles the piece on site - the back panel is positioned and secured to the wall for stability, the base and console set in front of it, the drawers refitted and everything aligned. Please confirm doorway and stair widths, lift internal dimensions, ceiling height and any service-entry restriction well in advance. International orders are quoted case by case.

Craftsmanship Assurance and Care

Our craftsmanship assurance covers the solid teak structure, the carving, the joinery, the drawer runners and the gold-leaf work on both the panel and the console. If a joint opens, a pierced carved element separates or a drawer runs badly because of a fault in the making - rather than through impact, misuse, water damage or an attempted self-repair - we repair or replace it. The painted floral sprays are laid freehand and vary between pieces; that is a characteristic of hand work, not a defect.

This is the most delicate finish we make and it needs dry, gentle care only. Use a clean dry soft brush on the pierced scrollwork, the crest, the drawer cartouches and the carved base, working gently so nothing levers against a pierced rib. A soft dry cloth suits the painted ivory field and the console top. Never use water, chemical polish, alcohol or ammonia cleaners anywhere - solvents lift both paint and gold leaf, and neither can be spot-repaired invisibly. Use mats on the console top. Keep the piece out of direct sunlight, which yellows ivory paint and fades painted florals faster than it affects gold.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

Yes. Both the back panel and the console are genuine solid teak, hand-selected and seasoned before carving. Painted furniture is where MDF and particle board usually hide, which is exactly why we confirm the wood in writing with your order.

The back panel and the console are supplied together as one designed set and are proportioned to each other. The console can be ordered on its own if you prefer, but the panel is what gives the television a setting rather than leaving it as a black rectangle on a bare wall.

Yes, laid on freehand over the ivory ground after it has been built up and cut back. That means no two panels are identical, and the floral brief - density, colour, placement - can be changed to your requirement.

They are functional. The pierced grilles let equipment breathe and allow remote signals to pass through, so set-top boxes and players can live inside the closed drawers instead of sitting on an open shelf.

Yes. The paint can be taken to cream, soft grey, pale green or a shade matched to your room, and the gold coverage increased or reduced. A bespoke colour adds time for matching and approval before painting begins.

Typically 8 to 12 weeks from order confirmation - this is the most involved piece in the TV unit range. Shipping is free anywhere in India and our team assembles the panel and console on site.
