Overview

This is a hand-carved solid teak wood wall mirror finished in soft champagne gold, built as a wide pierced acanthus frame around a rectangular bevelled plate. The design language is Baroque foliate work with the ornament kept uniform: acanthus leaves curling and overlapping in a continuous run around all four sides, cut right through the frame so the wall colour shows behind, with a carved egg-and-dart border holding the glass. There is no crest and no applied ornament, so the design has no fixed top.

The champagne finish is the reason to choose this over our brighter gilt pieces. It sits between gold and silver - warm but muted - which lets it work against contemporary neutrals, greiges and warm whites as easily as against traditional colours. That makes it a safe choice when the rest of the room may change: a living room, a bedroom, a hallway, a dressing area, or a rental or hospitality interior where the scheme is refreshed periodically. Border width, carving density and finish tone are all specified by you.

The Story Behind This Mirror

A continuous pierced border has one difficult requirement: the acanthus run has to divide evenly around the perimeter and turn all four corners without a stretched or truncated leaf. That is arithmetic before it is carving, and it is settled at the setting-out stage for your exact frame size - which is why this design cannot simply be scaled up or down from a standard pattern.

The carving is worked in layers. The ground is established, one tier of acanthus is lifted away from it, then another, with each leaf undercut so it passes over and behind its neighbour. The waste between the layers is then pierced right through, at which point the frame is mostly air and every rib left has to carry the bevelled plate. The egg-and-dart border is run last around the aperture and is the most exacting element on the piece - a repeating classical motif where any variation in the spacing of the eggs is immediately visible.

The champagne tone is built at the finishing stage by laying the metal and then working it back further than on a bright gilt piece, so the colour settles down into something warm rather than reflective.

Factual specification for this hand-carved teak wood champagne gold wall mirror:

  • Material: Solid teak wood, hand-carved (no veneer, no engineered wood)
  • Style: Baroque foliate, wide continuous pierced acanthus border, no crest
  • Finish: Soft champagne gold, hand-applied and worked back for a muted warm tone; customisable to bright gold, antique gold, distressed gold, silver or dark wood polish
  • Frame detail: Layered acanthus pierced through and running continuously around all four sides, leaf spacing set out to turn the corners without a broken repeat, carved egg-and-dart border to the glass
  • Glass: Rectangular bevelled mirror plate
  • Orientation: Wall-mounted; hangs portrait or landscape, no fixed top
  • Size: Custom sizes made to order - share your wall dimensions and we will quote
  • Make: Made to order, handcrafted by master Indian artisans

Packaging and Transit Protection

A continuous pierced border means projecting leaf tips all the way round the frame, so there is no safe edge to grip. The leaf runs are wrapped in high-density foam along their full length rather than tip by tip, so nothing can catch and lever a tip away, and the whole frame is faced with a soft interleaf first so no foam contacts the finish directly - a worked-back champagne tone marks more readily than a heavy bright gilt.

The pierced sections are then faced with foam sheet on both sides and blocked so nothing can press into an opening and snap a rib. The bevelled plate is covered with a shatter-retention film and rigid-board backed. The frame is corner-guarded at all four corners and blocked into a fitted wooden crate with foam on every face so it cannot shift and abrade on a long road journey. The crate is marked for orientation and fragility, strapped and sealed, and we photograph the piece wrapped and the crate closed before dispatch.

Shipping and Delivery

Every piece is carved after you order, and because the acanthus run is calculated for your specific frame size this is genuinely made to measure rather than resized from a standard. Typical lead time is 4 to 6 weeks from confirmation, moving to the longer end for a larger frame or a wider, deeper border, since the piercing scales directly with perimeter. The exact timeline is confirmed in writing at order and we share progress photographs once the border is carved and again after finishing, so you approve the actual tone before it ships.

Delivery is free anywhere in India. We arrange and manage transport and our team coordinates unloading and placement at your address rather than leaving a crate at the gate. Please tell us in advance about stairs, lift dimensions or society service-entry restrictions so the route can be planned, and if you intend to hang the mirror landscape rather than portrait, say so at the order stage so the fittings are set for it. International orders are quoted case by case.

Craftsmanship Assurance and Care

Our craftsmanship assurance covers the solid teak frame and the hand-carving. If a joint opens or a pierced rib fails because of a fault in the making - rather than through impact, misuse, an unsuitable wall fixing or an attempted self-repair - we repair or replace the piece. Glass breakage after delivery and water damage sit outside the assurance.

Use a clean dry soft brush through the pierced acanthus, working in the direction the leaves lie rather than against them, since the undercut tips will catch a cloth and break. A soft dry cloth suits the egg-and-dart border, where the surface is continuous. Never use water, chemical polish, alcohol or ammonia-based cleaners on the finish - a champagne tone is achieved by working the metal back at the finishing stage, so any stripped patch will not match its surroundings and cannot be spot-repaired invisibly. Spray glass cleaner onto the cloth rather than at the plate so nothing runs into the carving behind it. Keep the mirror out of direct sunlight and away from heat and air-conditioner outflow. Mount on a solid wall with anchors rated above its weight, and if you rehang it in the other orientation, refit the hardware rather than reusing old holes.
