An antique wooden jhula is a wooden swing finished in a deep aged tone rather than a light natural one, and this one is carved from solid teak with an arched pierced crown, urn-finial columns and an openwork seat back. It seats two, hangs on forged chains and stands on its own frame, so it needs nothing fixed into your ceiling.

The antique tone is a finish, not the age of the wood: the timber is fresh solid teak, coloured and polished by hand so the piece looks settled from the first day. If you would rather have it lighter, we make it in any teak tone you name, matched to a photograph or a sample you send us.

Everything here is made to order by master Indian artisans, so the seat width, column height, carving depth and finish are set by you. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production begins. The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty, the piece is covered for life against termite damage, and delivery across India is free with guaranteed dent-free arrival.

The ogee arch on this crest is borrowed from doorways, not from furniture. Walk into an old Indian haveli and the openings between courtyards curve exactly this way, rising and then turning back on themselves before meeting at a carved keystone. A jhula set under such an arch inherited its shape, and eventually carried it up onto its own frame.

What the arch does for a swing is practical as well as decorative. The curve puts the deepest section of timber where the chains hang and lets the beam taper towards the centre, so the crest looks light while staying strong exactly where the load sits.

The pierced crown above it is cut through the wood rather than carved into its face, which means light passes through the scrollwork and the pattern changes as the room changes. Our master Indian artisans cut that openwork by hand, following the grain so each scroll runs along the wood's strength rather than across it. That is why this kind of pierced crest survives generations of use, and it is the sort of decision that only comes from carving the same forms for a lifetime.

Material: Solid teak throughout, including columns, plinths, crest arch, seat frame and pierced back panel.

Carving: Ogee-arched crest with pierced foliate crown, reeded and collared columns, turned urn finials, carved brackets at column heads, carved figures on the plinths, arched openwork seat back with turned knops, moulded and stepped plinths.

Construction: Freestanding column frame carrying the load on two plinths, so no ceiling or wall fixing is required. Seat suspended on forged metal chains with eye fittings.

Seating: Two seater as shown, and buildable to any width you want, from a compact single up to a three seater.

Finish: Shown in a deep antique tone with hand-polished highlights, and available in any teak tone you prefer, from natural honey through mid brown to near black.

Cushions: The seat is made flat and ready for cushions, and we can build it to a specific cushion thickness if you tell us what you plan to use.

Sizes: Custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

The pierced crown is the most delicate part of this swing, so it is packed first and most carefully: soft foam pressed into the openwork from both faces, then bubble wrap, then a corrugated box with rigid corners, so no pressure ever reaches the cut scrollwork.

The arched crest beam travels with edge guards along its full moulded length. Columns and finials are wrapped individually, with the finials given their own foam collars so nothing bears down on the turned tips. The plinths, being the heaviest parts, are boxed separately and marked for two-person handling. Chains and fittings travel in a sealed pouch of their own so metal never rubs against carved teak.

All of it is then crated together and labelled. The packaging runs to multiple layers because a piece carved by hand over weeks deserves more than one. The photographs on this page are of the actual furniture, taken before packing - real product images, not renders.

Delivery is free across India, included in the price with no freight, packing or handling added at any later stage, whatever the distance from us to your door.

Production starts once you have confirmed your sizes and your finish in writing. We give you a realistic timeline then, and send photographs of your own piece as the carving progresses so you can watch it come together.

On arrival the swing is carried in and set up in the room you want it, with the crest seated onto the columns, the plinths levelled to your floor and the chains hung and adjusted until the seat hangs true. We guarantee dent-free arrival. If anything is not as it should be when you see it, tell us and we will put it right.

Twenty years of warranty cover the solid teak frame and joinery here: the columns, the arched crest, the plinths and every joint between them. A jhula is furniture that moves, so its joints are the part that matters most, and that is exactly what this warranty is written around.

Alongside it runs a lifetime warranty against termite damage. Teak's own oils keep termites away, and we put that in writing for as long as the piece is yours.

The forged chains and eye fittings are supplied fitted and adjusted. If you ever want them changed for a different length, a different finish, or simply refreshed after years of use, write to us with your order details and we send the right parts for your exact frame, because we keep a record of every piece we make. Any carving or joinery attention is handled by our own master Indian artisans, and we explain the work and the timeline to you before we begin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

No, and that works in your favour: it is new solid teak given a deep antique finish by hand. You get the settled look of an old piece with the strength and warranty of new timber, and no hidden repairs or old damage anywhere in the frame.

Yes. The antique tone shown is one option among many. We finish it in any teak shade you like, from pale natural honey to a deep near-black, and we match a photograph or a physical sample if you send one.

No. The two carved plinths carry the entire load on your floor, so the swing is completely freestanding. That makes it straightforward in an apartment, a rented home, or any room with a false ceiling.

It is jaali, the Indian tradition of cutting a pattern right through a panel of wood or stone. Here it forms the foliate crown above the arch and the arched back of the seat, and light passing through it is part of the effect.

Yes. The seat is built flat and ready for cushions. Tell us the thickness you plan to use and we set the seat height so the finished sitting height is comfortable for you.

Yes. We build the seat, the crest and the column spacing to whatever width you want. Send us the space you are working with and we will design it to fit that room.

You give us your room measurements and any constraints such as ceiling height or a doorway width, and we design to those numbers. Custom sizes are made to order, and the final measurements are confirmed with you in writing before any wood is cut.

The solid teak frame and joinery are covered for 20 years, and there is a lifetime warranty against termite damage. Delivery anywhere in India is free, with guaranteed dent-free arrival.
