White Carved Teak Jhula on a Trestle Stand

This is a two seater indoor swing in solid teak, finished in a soft white that lets the grain and carved relief show through. The stand is a trestle: two square posts carrying carved relief panels along their faces and turned finials at the top, tied together at floor level by a long stretcher so the whole frame acts as one rigid structure and stands steadily without any ceiling fixing.

The seat hangs on iron chains, with jaali lattice set into the back panel and both arms, a carved shaped crest above the backrest and a fringe of turned pendant drops running along the front seat rail. Plain linen cushions and a bolster keep the palette light. Every Brown Rabbit jhula is made to order, so the seat width, the stand height, the chain length, the finish and the fabric are agreed with you before production and confirmed in writing. The solid teak and its joinery carry a 20-year warranty, termite damage is covered for the life of the piece, delivery anywhere in India is free, and our team assembles and balances it in your home.

What a White Jhula Does to a Room

Colour decides how much space a piece of furniture appears to take. A dark polished jhula is the first thing you see when you walk in, and it anchors the room around itself. A white one does the opposite: against a pale wall it settles back, the frame reads as line rather than mass, and what comes forward is the carving, seen as texture and shadow rather than as ornament in a contrasting colour. In a verandah, a sunlit corner or a balcony with a view, that lightness is exactly what you want, because the room and the light stay the subject.

Achieving it takes a particular kind of finishing. The white is worked so the grain and the relief still read through it rather than being filled and buried, which is what keeps the piece looking like carved wood rather than painted board. The trestle frame supports the same intention: tying the two posts together with a floor stretcher lets them be slimmer than separate plinths would allow, since the stretcher makes the whole stand act as one rigid structure. Everything is carved and finished by hand by master Indian artisans, and the photographs show the actual jhula.

Protecting a Pale Finish and Fine Lattice

White surfaces travel against clean undyed material at every point, so nothing dyed or printed can transfer colour onto the finish. Every white face is wrapped in that layer first and padded over it, which is the simplest way to guarantee the piece arrives exactly as it left.

The jhula ships as separate elements: the two posts, the floor stretcher, the seat, the chains and the cushions, each crated apart so nothing carries the weight of anything else and the parts come through ordinary doorways. The jaali panels in the back and arms are shielded by rigid boards standing clear of their faces rather than by packing pressed into the lattice. The fringe of turned pendant drops along the seat rail travels under a rigid guard spanning its whole length so nothing touches the turnings, and the finials on the posts are individually wrapped. Iron chains are boxed separately so they cannot mark the white. Your jhula arrives dent-free and unmarked.

Free Delivery, Assembly and Balancing Across India

Delivery is free anywhere in India with no distance surcharge and nothing added to your invoice for freight. Production begins once your specification is confirmed and we give you a realistic completion window at that point. If you are working towards a housewarming, a festival or a particular date, tell us at enquiry and we will plan the build around it.

Our team assembles the trestle stand, hangs the seat on its chains, sets the height you find easiest and balances the swing so it hangs level and moves sweetly. Because the frame is freestanding you can decide the position on the day and change it later, on a verandah, in a sunlit corner or wherever the light and the breeze are best. Share your floor space and doorway measurements at enquiry along with your ceiling height, and we will build the stand to suit the room.

Warranty on This Jhula

The solid teak and its joinery are guaranteed for 20 years from delivery, and termite damage is covered for the entire life of the piece with no expiry. On a trestle stand the floor stretcher is what makes the frame rigid, so its joints into the two posts are cut and pinned and carry the swinging load together with the head of each post. Those, the post-to-foot joints and the four hanging points on the seat frame are all covered for the full term. Termite cover has no end date because teak resists termites through the oils within the timber.

Chains and fittings are supplied to suit the seat, covered against manufacturing fault, and we service or replace them at any point in the life of the jhula. Linen cushions are reupholstered whenever you would like something new. The white finish is fully serviceable: it can be cleaned back and refreshed in place, so the piece can be returned to its original crispness at any time, and we do that for our own jhulas at an honest price. Keep it out of prolonged direct sun and regular dusting will do the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

It sits back rather than forward. Against a pale wall the frame reads as line rather than mass and the carving comes through as texture and shadow, which keeps a room feeling light. A polished jhula anchors a room; a white one lets the light and the view stay the subject.

Yes. The white is worked so the grain and the relief read through rather than being filled and buried, which is what keeps it looking like carved wood. If you would like more contrast, we can shade the recesses so the carving reads deeper still.

Yes. The floor stretcher ties the two posts into a single rigid frame, which is what lets the posts be slimmer while the stand stays completely steady, and it spreads the load along the floor rather than at two points.

Yes, and also rope. Iron suits the white and gives a crisp graphic line, brass reads warmer, and rope gives a softer traditional feel and a quieter movement. Tell us your preference at enquiry.

It suits both beautifully, which is what the lighter frame and pale finish were drawn for. Keep it under cover and out of prolonged direct sun, and we can specify a more weather-resistant finish for a semi-open space if you tell us where it will stand.

Dust the carving with a dry soft brush and wipe flat surfaces with a barely damp cloth. The finish can be cleaned back and refreshed in place at any point in the life of the piece, so it can always be returned to its original crispness.

Any fabric or leather you like. Plain linen keeps the palette quiet, and a printed or block-printed cotton works beautifully against white if you want more colour. Ask for swatches at enquiry, and we reupholster later whenever you wish.
