A carved teak mirror in antique gold, with a beaded oval plate, a stepped openwork rectangle and rose garlands, hand-carved and made to order by Brown Rabbit.

The combination of shapes is what gives it presence at a moderate size. The rectangle sets the piece firmly on the wall, the oval softens the middle, and the garlands cross between the two so the eye never stops at the join. It works well in a room where the furniture is already strongly rectangular - above a chest, a bureau or a straight-backed settee.

The antique tone can be taken further or held back. A deeper tone suits a room with dark timber and warm walls; a lighter one keeps the piece brighter against pale plaster. We finish a sample area for your approval either way.

The oval plate can be plain or bevelled and the garlands can be carved fuller or sparser. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

The beaded ring around the oval is not one continuous piece, and the places where it joins were chosen with some care.

Beads on an ellipse are an awkward problem. The curve tightens at the ends and flattens along the sides, so a bead cut at a constant spacing will look crowded at the top and bottom and stretched at the flanks. Our artisans set the ring out in four segments, taking the joins at the quadrant points where the curvature is changing fastest, and vary the bead pitch subtly within each segment so the spacing appears constant to the eye all the way round.

The joins land exactly where the curve is moving quickest, which is where the eye is least likely to pause - and the garlands cross the frame close to those points, so anything left to notice is covered by a rose.

You are not meant to see any of this. You are meant to see a ring of beads that runs evenly around an oval, which is a thing that cannot actually be cut in a single pass and has to be constructed.

Material: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: stepped rectangular outer frame with pierced panels; inner oval frame with a segmented beaded ring; carved rose garlands and shells joined to the frame.

Finish: gilding toned back to an antique warmth, adjustable deeper or lighter. Bright gold, silver, ivory, champagne, black with gold and natural teak also available.

Plate: oval mirror glass, plain or bevelled, set into a rebate from the back.

Hanging: concealed fixings supplied and rated for the finished weight, with fixing centres given ahead of delivery.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

Roses carved in the round are the most exposed elements here - they stand clear of the frame on all sides, and a bloom is a delicate thing in a crate.

Each garland is supported along its length with shaped foam worked in beneath the flowers rather than pressed over them, so the blooms take no load. The shells at the top and bottom, which project furthest on the centre line, are capped individually.

The pierced panels are packed with foam pressed into their openings so the stepped frame is supported from within. The oval plate is filmed and backed with a board cut to the ellipse.

The whole mirror then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate, carried on edge and marked for orientation. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Delivery anywhere in India is free and included in the price - no separate freight, no distance loading, no surcharge for a smaller town.

Production begins once your size, plate and finish tone are confirmed in writing. You get a realistic production window then, and updates as the piece moves through carving, gilding, toning, glazing and crating.

The consignment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is our responsibility to honour.

Tell us about any narrow stair, small lift or tight doorway when you order and we plan the crate and the route around it before the mirror leaves the workshop.

The solid teak frame and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the outer stepped frame, the inner oval frame, the segmented beaded ring and the joints holding the garlands and shells.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the mirror for as long as you own it, backed by teak's natural termite resistance and set down in writing.

The antique toning is applied by hand over hand-laid gilding, so the depth of colour varies through the carving. That is the point of an antique finish and it is what keeps it from looking uniform and printed.

Written warranty terms are issued with the order, so the cover is agreed before production begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

The gilding is laid by hand and then toned back so it reads warm and settled rather than bright and new. The depth of toning can be taken further or held back to suit your walls, and we finish a sample area for approval.

Yes. Bright gold, silver, ivory, champagne, black with gold and natural teak are all available on the same carved frame.

Carved in the round in solid teak by master Indian artisans, then fitted to the frame. They stand clear of the surface, which is why the garlands read as real foliage rather than as flat ornament.

Yes. The inner frame can be drawn as a circle or a rectangle within the same outer frame, and we respace the panels and garlands to suit the change.

Plain or bevelled, as you choose. A bevel around an oval catches light attractively at the flanks; a plain plate keeps the reflection uninterrupted.

Usually a little narrower than the chest, hung with a small gap of clear wall between the two. Send us the chest width and ceiling height and we will draw it to fit and confirm in writing.
