A three seater sofa in carved teak with flared arms, a fluted back and piped ivory upholstery, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

Three-seat is the size most rooms need and the size most often got slightly wrong. A sofa that seats three in theory but only two in comfort is a common outcome, and it comes down to seat width per person and to how much of the width the arms consume.

Flared arms help here, because the flare puts the widest point of the arm at the top where nobody sits, rather than at seat level where the width is needed.

Tell us the room dimensions and how the sofa will actually be used and we will propose a length that genuinely seats three. Fabric, dimensions and finish are all yours to set. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

Piping looks like a decorative line. It is actually the strongest seam in upholstery, and that is why it is on every edge of this sofa.

A plain seam joins two pieces of cloth with a single line of stitching, and every time someone sits down that line takes the strain directly. A piped seam sandwiches a covered cord between the two pieces, which means the stitching passes through six layers instead of two and the load is spread along the cord rather than concentrated on the thread.

The cord also does something for the shape. An upholstered edge without piping softens and rounds over the years as the filling settles behind it; with a cord run into the seam, the edge keeps its line - which is why a piped sofa still looks crisp long after an unpiped one has gone soft at the corners.

Our upholsterers cut the piping strips on the bias, at forty-five degrees to the weave, so the covering can turn a corner without wrinkling. Cut straight it would be quicker and it would pucker at every curve, and this sofa has curves everywhere.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: flared arm frames; fluted centre back panel; pierced carved crest; carved apron; cabriole legs with carved knees.

Upholstery: piped on every edge, with piping strips cut on the bias so the covering turns curves without puckering; fabric of your choosing.

Seat: single long cushion over a sprung and webbed platform.

Finish: ivory frame with gilded carving as photographed; other finishes available.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

Piping stands slightly proud of every surface, which makes it the first thing that contact reaches - and a crushed cord leaves a visible flat in an otherwise crisp line.

So the upholstered surfaces are covered with a clean breathable wrap and the piped edges are then given their own soft edge protection along their full length, rather than relying on the general packing.

The pierced crest is packed with foam worked into its openwork, the carved apron is capped, and the cabriole legs are wrapped and blocked so the sofa's weight rests on its rails.

The cushion travels wrapped separately to keep its shape. Everything then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery anywhere in India is included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no small-town surcharge.

Production begins once your dimensions, fabric and finish are confirmed in writing. You get a realistic production window at that point and updates as the piece moves through frame work, carving, gilding, upholstery and crating.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us your doorway, stair and lift dimensions when you order. A three seater is the piece most likely to meet a tight turn, and we plan the crate and the route in advance rather than on the day.

The solid teak frame and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the seat rails, the cabriole leg joints, the flared arm frames, the back frame and the crest and apron fixings.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the sofa for as long as you own it, backed by teak's natural termite resistance and given in writing.

Piped seams are the most durable in upholstery, and covers can be remade to the same seam layout over the years without disturbing the frame. We can carry out that work whenever it is wanted.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.

Everything you need to know about this product.

Long enough that three people are comfortable rather than merely fitting, which depends on seat width per person and on how much width the arms take. Send us your room dimensions and how the sofa will be used and we will propose a length that works.

Because the flare puts the widest point of the arm at the top where nobody sits, rather than at seat level where the width is needed - so more of the sofa's overall length is usable seating.
