A champagne gold luxury sofa in carved teak with a buttoned back, rolled scroll arms and a pierced plinth, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

A single-tone treatment is the most demanding way to finish a sofa, because nothing is hidden by contrast. The carving has to carry the piece on its own shadow, which means it has to be cut deep enough to produce that shadow - so this frame is worked more deeply than a two-tone version of the same design would need to be.

Seat depth and height are the two measurements that decide how a sofa feels, and both are set to the household rather than to a standard. Tell us the height of the people who will use it most.

Fabric, dimensions and finish are all yours to set, and matching chairs and a centre table can be made as a suite. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

Under the cushion of this sofa is the part nobody sees and everybody feels: the sprung seat platform.

Webbing is stretched across the seat frame first, interlaced and tensioned by hand until it rings when struck. Coil springs are then stitched to that webbing at each intersection, and each spring is tied to its neighbours and down to the frame with cord - eight ties per spring, so that a spring cannot lean, only compress.

The tension in those ties is not uniform. The springs at the front edge are tied down harder than those at the centre, because the front edge takes the load of someone perching on it and needs to be firmer, while the centre should give. Set them all the same and the seat feels either hard everywhere or soft everywhere; graduate them and it feels correct in both places.

The whole platform is then covered and the cushion sits on top of it. A sofa built this way takes several days longer than one built on a fixed foam base, and it is the reason a good sofa is still comfortable in twenty years while a cheap one is not comfortable in five.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans.

Structure: buttoned back frame with pierced carved crest; deep rolled scroll arms with carved rosettes; pierced carved plinth base; carved feet.

Seat: hand-interlaced webbing with coil springs stitched and eight-way hand-tied, tension graduated firmer at the front edge and softer at the centre; single long cushion over the platform.

Finish: champagne gold throughout as photographed, with the carving cut deep to hold shadow in a single-tone finish; other finishes available.

Upholstery: fabric of your choosing.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

A single-tone finish shows a mark anywhere on the piece, so the whole sofa is faced with a clean non-transferring layer before any foam or tape goes near it.

The arm scrolls are capped with shaped foam following the spiral, with the rosettes protected separately at their centres.

The pierced crest and plinth are packed with foam worked into their openings so the carving is supported from within, and the sofa is blocked so its weight rests on the plinth frame rather than the carved face.

The buttoned back is given a standoff board on foam blocks, and the cushion travels wrapped separately. Everything then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Delivery anywhere in India is free and included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no surcharge for a smaller town.

Production begins once your dimensions, fabric and finish are confirmed in writing. A hand-sprung seat adds time to the build, and we give you a realistic production window that includes it rather than an optimistic one that does not.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is our responsibility to honour.

Tell us your doorway, stair and lift dimensions when you order and we plan the crate and the route around them before the sofa leaves the workshop.

Brown Rabbit warrants the solid teak frame and its joinery for 20 years - the seat frame carrying the springing, the plinth, the arm structure, the back frame and the crest fixings.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the sofa for as long as you own it, resting on teak's natural termite resistance and confirmed in writing.

A hand-tied sprung platform can be re-tensioned and re-tied over the years rather than replaced, which is the practical advantage of traditional springing. Covers and cushions can be renewed without disturbing the frame, and we can do that work whenever it is wanted.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.
