A grey damask sofa on a gilded carved teak frame, with a pierced crest, scroll arms and three seat cushions, made to order by Brown Rabbit.

Three loose cushions rather than one long one is the practical choice. Each can be turned and swapped independently, so wear spreads evenly across the seat over years of use, and any one of them can be recovered on its own if you ever want to.

Fabric is chosen by you. A damask with a large repeat is worth planning: we set out the pattern so that a full motif is centred on the back panel and on each seat cushion, rather than letting the repeat fall wherever the roll happens to start.

Length, seat height and seat depth are drawn to your room and household, and matching chairs and a two-seat sofa can be made as a suite. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production.

Eight legs under one sofa is not decoration. It is arithmetic.

A long seat rail carrying three people bends in the middle - not visibly, but enough over years to loosen the joints at each end and put a permanent sag into the seat. The traditional cure is a deeper rail, which raises the sofa's apron and spoils its proportion. The other cure is more legs.

So the intermediate legs on this frame are not applied to the front for show; each one is jointed into the seat rail directly above it and carries load down to the floor, dividing the span into short sections that cannot bend. That is why they are placed at the points they are, rather than spaced evenly for appearance.

The carved apron is then set out around those fixed positions, with its densest passages falling over each leg. Which means the ornament follows the structure rather than the structure being bent to suit the ornament - and both end up looking right, because the eye expects support where it sees weight.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans and gilded.

Structure: seat rails jointed into eight legs, with intermediate legs carrying load and dividing the span; pierced foliate crest across the back; rolled scroll arms with carved terminals; carved apron.

Seat: three loose cushions over a sprung and webbed platform; upholstered back panel.

Upholstery: fabric of your choosing, with pattern repeats centred on the back panel and on each cushion.

Finish: full gilding as photographed; ivory, silver, champagne, black with gold and natural teak available.

Suite: matching chairs and a two-seat sofa can be made to the same carving and finish.

Sizes: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are photographs of the actual product, not renders.

Fabric and gilding need different protection, so they are packed in that order.

The upholstered surfaces are covered first with a clean breathable wrap that will not mark or transfer. The three seat cushions travel wrapped separately so each arrives with its shape intact.

The pierced crest is the finest carving on the piece and is packed with foam worked into its openwork, supported from within. The arm scroll terminals are capped individually.

All eight legs are wrapped and blocked so the sofa's weight rests on its rails rather than on the legs in transit. Everything then goes into laminated foam, bubble wrap and a fitted wooden crate. Multi-layer protective packaging is standard and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Free delivery anywhere in India is included in the price - no separate freight charge, no distance loading, no small-town surcharge.

Production begins once your dimensions, fabric and finish are confirmed in writing. We give you a realistic production window at that stage and updates as the piece moves through frame work, carving, gilding, upholstery and crating.

The shipment is tracked and our team stays reachable throughout. Dent-free arrival is guaranteed and it is ours to honour.

Tell us your doorway, stair and lift dimensions when you order. A three-seat sofa is the piece most likely to meet a tight turn, and we plan the crate and the route in advance.

The solid teak frame and its joinery carry a 20-year Brown Rabbit warranty - the seat rails, every leg joint including the intermediate ones, the back frame, the arm structure and the crest fixings.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs with the sofa for as long as you own it, resting on teak's natural termite resistance and confirmed in writing.

Cushions can be refilled and covers remade over the years without disturbing the frame, and because the seat is three separate cushions any one of them can be treated on its own. We can carry out that work whenever it is wanted.

Written warranty terms are issued with your order so the cover is agreed before production begins.
