A wooden rocking chair in solid teak, carved with standing lions on both sides and figure heads at the rocker ends. This is a statement piece - the sort of chair that anchors a hall, a study, a hotel lobby or the landing at the top of a staircase, where it will be looked at as often as it is sat in.

Master Indian artisans carve it entirely by hand from seasoned solid teak. The lions are not applied ornaments: each is worked in the round from solid stock so it stands as a full figure with the arm resting across its shoulders and its paws on the rocker below.

The chair is made to order. Choose the depth of the polish, choose the seat in leather or fabric, and set the dimensions. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production. Behind it are a 20-year warranty on the teak frame and joinery, a lifetime warranty against termite damage, free PAN-India delivery with guaranteed dent-free arrival, and multi-layer protective packaging.

Carving a lion that is also a chair leg is two problems solved at once, and the second one decides the first.

A figure carved in the round is worked from all four faces of a block at the same time. The carver draws the profile on the side and the front view on the face, then takes both down together in stages - never finishing one side before starting another, because a figure roughed out fully from one direction will always be wrong when seen from ninety degrees away. The mane, the turn of the head and the set of the shoulders emerge together or not at all.

But this lion has to hold up a person. Its four legs are the load path between the arm above and the rocker below, so the grain of the block is chosen to run down through those legs, not across them. Wood is many times stronger along the grain than across it, and a leg carved across the grain would be a decorative object waiting to snap.

That single decision, made before any tool touches the block, is why the animal can be this slender and still be structural. The carver spends weeks on the mane. The chair stands because of ten minutes spent choosing which way up the timber went.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans, with traditional joinery at every junction.

Sides: full standing lions carved in the round from solid stock, forming the arm supports and load path to the rockers.

Back: carved panel with scrolling foliage around a central medallion, under a carved head crest with scrolled ears.

Arms: shaped and carved, resting across the lions' shoulders, with scrolled terminals.

Seat: low padded leather seat over a carved and pierced seat rail.

Rockers: matched shaped bows cut from a single template, with carved winged figure heads at the front ends and turned detail at the rear.

Finish: deep walnut-toned hand polish. Lighter or darker tones can be matched, and gilded highlights can be added if you want them.

Seat material: leather as photographed. Any leather or fabric can be used instead, including your own material.

Size: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are of the actual product, not renders.

This chair has more projecting carved detail than almost anything else we make - two full figures, winged heads at the rocker ends, a carved crest - and each of those is a point that would take all the load in a badly packed carton. So each is protected individually.

Foam collars are shaped around the lions' heads and manes, their paws, the winged figure heads, the crest and the arm scrolls. A soft non-abrasive layer covers the polished surfaces first so nothing firmer touches the finish. Shaped foam blocks then cradle the rocker bows so the chair sits still and its weight is spread rather than balanced on two curves.

Corrugated panels build a rigid shell around all of it, and the outer carton is edge-reinforced so any stacked weight in transit is carried by the packaging rather than by the carving. The leather seat gets a breathable cover that keeps dust off without holding moisture against it. Everything unwraps by hand, layer by layer, with no blades needed near the carving.

Free delivery anywhere in India is included in the price - no zone rates, no distance charges, no freight line at checkout. The chair reaches Ahmedabad for the same cost as Guwahati.

Dent-free arrival is guaranteed. It leaves in multi-layer protective packaging, moves with handlers briefed specifically on deeply carved furniture, and is inspected at every transfer point. If anything is wrong when you open it, tell us and we put it right - the guarantee belongs to us, not to the transporter.

Because a chair like this is carved to order, production begins once your finish, seat material and measurements are confirmed in writing. Carving of this depth takes time, and we share a realistic timeline at that point rather than an optimistic one, with updates as the figures, the frame and the polish progress, and a dispatch note with an expected delivery window.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty. On this chair that covers the lion figures as structural members, the rockers, the joints where the figures meet the rockers and the arms, the seat frame and the back panel. If a joint opens or a member fails within those twenty years, we repair or replace it.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs alongside it, with no expiry date at all. Teak's natural oils are what deter termites, and our seasoning and finishing routine is designed around keeping those oils intact, so we guarantee the timber for as long as the chair is yours.

A piece carved this deeply can only be warranted this way if the people who made it are the people standing behind it, and they are - this chair is built start to finish in our own workshop by the master Indian artisans who make every piece we sell, from timber we season ourselves. Your warranty registers automatically with the order; your order number is all a claim ever needs.
