A rocking chair in gilded solid teak with buttoned purple velvet, swan-form arms and carved rockers. It is a piece meant to be seen as much as used - a nursery corner, a bedroom bay, a verandah, or the end of a long drawing room where a static chair would sit too quietly.

Master Indian artisans carve every element by hand from seasoned solid teak: the swan heads, the feathered wing panels, the acanthus on the rocker fronts and the moulded back frame. Gold leaf is then laid over all of it, so the purple velvet reads as the only colour in the piece.

The chair is made to order. Choose the velvet, choose gold or silver or plain polished teak, and set the dimensions. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production. It comes with a 20-year warranty on the teak frame and joinery, a lifetime warranty against termite damage, free PAN-India delivery with guaranteed dent-free arrival, and multi-layer protective packaging.

The way a rocking chair feels is decided entirely by two curved pieces of wood on the floor, and by where the chair's weight sits above them.

Make the rockers a tight arc and the chair rocks quickly and shallowly, tipping far for a small push - lively, but it never quite settles. Make the arc long and flat and the motion becomes slow and wide, the kind you fall asleep in, but it takes real effort to start. The pair on this chair sit between the two, and that choice is made before any wood is cut, because the arc governs everything after it.

Both rockers come off a single template. If one is even slightly tighter than the other the chair will steer as it moves, drifting a few degrees across the floor over an evening. Cutting them as a matched pair from one pattern is what keeps the travel straight.

Then the balance. The seat is positioned over the arc so that the chair comes to rest very slightly back rather than upright - so an empty chair stays put and a loaded one wants to return to you instead of tipping away. It is a few millimetres of decision, made by hand, and it is the difference between a chair that rocks and a chair that simply moves.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans, with traditional joinery at every junction.

Back: arched moulded frame with a deep-buttoned upholstered panel.

Arms: carved swan-neck arms with forward-curling heads as hand rests.

Side panels: carved feathered wings between the arms and the seat.

Seat: buttoned pad on a shaped seat frame.

Rockers: matched shaped bows cut from a single template, carved with acanthus at the front and turned at the ends.

Upholstery: purple velvet with deep buttoning, as photographed. Any velvet or fabric can be used instead, including your own material.

Finish: hand-laid gold leaf over the whole frame. Silver, champagne, antiqued gold or plain polished teak are also available.

Size: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are of the actual product, not renders.

A rocking chair does not sit flat, which makes it an unusual thing to pack. Left on its rockers inside a carton it would move in transit, so it is cradled instead.

Shaped foam blocks are fitted under and around the rocker bows so the chair sits still and its weight is spread rather than resting on two narrow curves. The swan heads, the wing panels, the acanthus carving and the turned rocker ends each get their own foam collar, and a soft non-abrasive layer covers all the gilded surfaces so nothing coarse touches gold leaf.

Corrugated panels then form a rigid shell around the whole chair, and the outer carton is edge-reinforced so stacked weight is carried by the packaging. The buttoned velvet is covered in a breathable wrap that keeps dust off without pressing the pile flat or trapping moisture. All of it lifts away by hand, no cutting required.

Delivery is free anywhere in India. No zone rates, no distance charges, no separate freight line - the chair reaches a home in Nagpur for the same price as one in Delhi.

Dent-free arrival is guaranteed. The chair leaves in multi-layer protective packaging, travels with handlers briefed on gilded and carved furniture, and is checked at every transfer point. If anything is not right when you unwrap it, tell us and we put it right - the guarantee sits with us, not with the transporter.

Production begins after your velvet, finish and measurements are confirmed in writing, since every chair is made to order. You get a timeline at that point, updates as the chair moves through carving, gilding and upholstery, and a dispatch note with an expected delivery window so you can plan the day around it.

The solid teak frame and joinery are covered for 20 years. On a rocking chair that includes the parts that take the motion - the rockers themselves, the joints where the legs meet them, the seat frame and the back frame. If a joint works loose or a member fails within those twenty years, we repair or replace it.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs alongside, with no end date. Teak's own oils are what keep termites away, and our seasoning and finishing routine is designed to preserve them, so we guarantee the timber for as long as the chair is yours.

Terms this long are possible because the chair is built from start to finish in our own workshop by the master Indian artisans who make everything we sell, from timber we season ourselves. Your warranty is registered automatically when you order - there is nothing to fill in and nothing to keep. Your order number is enough to raise a claim whenever you need to.
