Overview

This is a royal luxury handcrafted carved teak wood sofa with a curved silhouette, photographed as a 3 seater. The frame is cream show wood with hand-laid gold leaf: a pierced carved crest rising at the centre of the arched back, carved acanthus wrapping both arm fronts, enclosed full-height arm panels, a carved apron with central cartouche running the length, and carved gilt cabriole legs. The upholstery combines a deep button-tufted champagne satin centre back with sage damask on the seat cushion and outer back panels, and quilted panels lining the inside of the arms.

The bowed plan makes this a genuinely different piece to specify. It sits away from the wall rather than flat against it, which suits large drawing rooms, farmhouse halls, hotel lobbies and open-plan spaces where a straight sofa leaves an awkward gap. Because everything is cut to order, the length, the depth of the arc, the seat depth and the seater count are all set from your floor plan rather than from a standard.

The Story Behind This Sofa

A curved sofa costs more than a straight one for reasons that have nothing to do with decoration.

Every horizontal member - the seat rail, the back rail, the apron - has to follow the arc. They cannot be cut from straight stock, so each is either laminated up in layers around a form or cut from much wider boards with the curve taken out of the solid, which wastes a great deal of timber. Cutting a curve from a straight board also produces short grain at the ends of the arc, the classic weak point where a curved rail snaps, so the layout is planned to keep grain running along the curve.

The carved apron then has to follow that arc while its ornament stays correctly proportioned - a cartouche that reads properly on a straight rail looks stretched on a curve, so the setting out is done on the finished shape rather than flat.

Upholstery is harder too. A curved back means every panel is cut on a shaped pattern rather than a rectangle, and the damask motif still has to sit true on the centre line and repeat evenly around the bow.

Factual specification for this royal luxury carved teak curved sofa:

  • Material: Solid teak wood frame, hand-carved (no veneer, no engineered wood in load-bearing members)
  • Style: Curved-back Rococo carved show-wood sofa with enclosed arms
  • Frame construction: Curved rails cut or laminated to follow the arc with grain running along the curve, not across it
  • Finish: Cream show wood with hand-laid gold leaf, burnished and rubbed back; customisable to antique gold, silver, ivory or dark wood polish
  • Carved detail: Pierced carved crest, carved acanthus arm fronts, carved apron with central cartouche, gilt cabriole legs
  • Upholstery: Button-tufted champagne centre back panel, sage damask seat and outer panels, quilted inner arm panels; fabric, velvet or leather all available
  • Plan: Bowed - sits away from the wall; arc depth specified by you
  • Seating: Shown as a 3 seater; made to order as 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 or 9 seater, corner or L shape, with matching single chairs
  • Size: Length, seat height, seat depth and arc all custom - share your floor plan and we will quote
  • Delivery: Pan-India, free shipping

Packaging and Transit Protection

A curved sofa is more awkward to crate than a straight one because it has no flat back to rest against, and any pressure applied across the arc rather than along it stresses the frame. So the crate is built to the plan of the sofa, with foam blocking supporting the curve continuously along its length rather than at two end points.

The upholstery is wrapped first in soft breathable cloth rather than sealed plastic, and the tufted champagne panel is protected with standoff blocking that bridges over the buttons rather than pressing onto them. The pierced crest, both carved arm fronts, the apron cartouche and all the cabriole legs are individually foam-wrapped and taped clear of the gold leaf. Loose bolsters and the tasselled cushion are bagged separately with the tassels wrapped so they cannot snag. The crate is marked for orientation, fragility and lifting points, with a clear instruction that the piece is lifted, never slid, and photographed sealed before dispatch.

Shipping and Delivery

Because this sofa is planned to your room rather than sized to a standard, we start with your floor plan: wall lengths, the position of doors and windows, and where you want the sofa to sit. Typical lead time is 10 to 12 weeks from order confirmation - longer than our straight-framed sofas, because curved rails have to be laminated or cut from the solid and every upholstery panel is cut on a shaped pattern. We share progress photographs after the frame is formed, after carving and gilding, and after upholstery.

Delivery is free anywhere in India - Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and beyond. Our team unloads, unwraps, carries and places the piece. Please confirm doorway, stair and lift dimensions carefully: a curved sofa needs more clearance than its stated length suggests, because it cannot be turned diagonally through a doorway the way a straight sofa can. Send us the tightest point on the route and we will check it before manufacture.

Craftsmanship Assurance and Care

Our craftsmanship assurance covers the solid teak frame, its joinery, the curved rail construction and the hand-carving. If a joint works loose, a curved rail fails or a carved element separates because of a fault in the making - rather than through impact, misuse, or an attempted self-repair - we repair or replace it. Fabric and foam are consumable components covered separately; we confirm those terms at order.

Never drag a curved sofa. On a straight sofa a sideways shove loads four legs evenly; on a bowed frame it twists the arc and stresses the rail joints, which is the one thing most likely to damage this piece in normal life. Lift it, with a person at each end. Vacuum the upholstery with a brush attachment and use a soft brush around the tufting buttons where dust gathers. Blot spills, never rub. Dust the gilded show wood with a dry soft brush only - never a cloth on gold leaf, which burnishes through at raised edges - and never use water, chemical polish or solvent cleaners on frame or fabric. Keep it out of direct sunlight, which fades sage and champagne tones quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

In India a three seater usually runs about six to seven feet long, with seat depth around 22 to 24 inches and seat height around 17 to 18 inches. But this piece is made to order, so none of those are fixed - we build to your floor plan and your preferred seat depth and height.

More than its length suggests, because a bowed sofa sits away from the wall rather than flat against it. Allow for the depth of the arc behind it plus normal walking clearance in front. Send us your wall lengths and we will confirm the footprint before manufacture.

A bowed sofa turns its ends slightly inward, so people at opposite ends face each other instead of staring straight ahead, which makes conversation easier. It also fills a large open room far better than a straight sofa pushed against a wall.

Tell us the tightest point on the route and we will check it before manufacture. This matters more on a curved sofa than a straight one, because it cannot be turned diagonally through a doorway the way a straight frame can.

Yes - as a 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 or 9 seater, and as a corner or L shape where the curve forms the corner rather than a hard right angle. Matching single chairs and a centre table can be built to the same design.

Always lift it with a person at each end - never drag or shove it. A sideways push twists the arc and stresses the rail joints, which is the single most likely cause of damage to a curved frame in normal use.
