Overview

This is a royal luxury handcrafted carved teak wood sofa upholstered in champagne bronze leather, with a hand-leafed champagne silver show-wood frame. The design carries a pierced carved crest above an arched back rail, deep carved scroll volutes wrapping both arm fronts, a button-tufted leather back panel, three individual leather seat cushions, rolled leather arms, a carved apron with foliate ornament running the full length, and carved feet at six points.

The combination of heavy carving with leather rather than fabric is unusual and deliberate. Carved show-wood sofas are normally upholstered in damask or silk, which makes them formal-room furniture used a few times a month; leather makes the same design usable every day. It suits family drawing rooms, studies, farmhouses, offices and hospitality lounges. Every configuration is available - 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 or 9 seater, corner or L shape, with matching single chairs.

The Story Behind This Sofa

Not all leather is the same, and the differences are worth understanding before you spend this kind of money.

Full grain is the outermost layer of the hide with its natural surface intact - the strongest, the most breathable, and the only kind that develops a genuine patina over years. Top grain has that surface lightly sanded and corrected to remove blemishes, making it more uniform but slightly less durable. Split or bonded leather comes from the lower layers or from reconstituted fibre, and it is the material that cracks and peels within a few years - which is what most people are actually remembering when they say leather does not last.

Upholstering leather is also a different craft from fabric. Hide comes in irregular shapes with natural variation, so panels must be cut around imperfections and matched for tone across a sofa - a large set may need hides from the same batch. And leather cannot be eased and gathered the way cloth can, so every panel has to be cut precisely; there is no correcting it on the frame.

Factual specification for this royal luxury carved teak leather sofa:

  • Material: Solid teak wood frame, hand-carved (no veneer, no engineered wood in load-bearing members)

  • Upholstery: Champagne bronze leather - button-tufted back, rolled leather arms, three leather seat cushions; grade specified at order, with full grain and top grain both available
  • Finish: Hand-laid champagne silver leaf on the show wood; customisable to gold leaf, antique gold, ivory or dark wood polish
  • Carved detail: Pierced carved crest to the arched back rail, deep carved scroll arm volutes, carved foliate apron, carved feet at six points
  • Alternatives: Fabric, damask, velvet and silk also available on this frame

Packaging and Transit Protection

Leather has one transit vulnerability above all others: it creases, and a crease that sets in leather may never come out. So no leather surface is folded or compressed at any point. The seat cushions travel flat in individual bags with rigid support, the tufted back is protected with standoff blocking that bridges over the buttons, and the rolled arms are cradled rather than wrapped tight.

Leather must also breathe. It is covered in soft breathable cloth only - never sealed plastic, which traps moisture against the hide and can cause mould bloom on a long or humid journey. No adhesive tape ever touches leather, since removing it lifts the finish. The pierced crest, both carved scroll arm volutes, the apron and the carved feet are individually foam-wrapped and taped clear of the silver leaf. Corner-guarded, foam-blocked into a fitted crate, marked for orientation and lifting points, photographed sealed before dispatch.

Shipping and Delivery

Every sofa is built to order and leather adds a sourcing stage that fabric does not. Hides are selected and matched for tone before cutting, and a large set may need to be cut from the same batch, so we confirm hide grade and colour with physical samples before manufacture. Typical lead time is 10 to 12 weeks from order confirmation, longer for a 7 or 9 seater set where hide matching across multiple pieces matters.

Delivery is free anywhere in India - Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and elsewhere. Our team unloads, unwraps, places and levels the sofa and fits the cushions at your address. On arrival, minor surface creasing from transit is normal in leather and settles within a few days at room temperature. Confirm doorway, stair and lift dimensions in advance, measuring to the outside of the rolled arms. International orders quoted case by case.

Craftsmanship Assurance and Care

Our craftsmanship assurance covers the solid teak frame, its joinery and the hand-carving. Leather and foam are consumable components with their own service life; terms for the specific hide grade you choose are confirmed at the order stage.

Leather care is simpler than fabric but not nothing. Dust weekly with a dry cloth and vacuum the tufting and seams with a brush attachment. Wipe spills immediately with a barely damp cloth and dry at once - leather is water resistant, not waterproof, and standing liquid will mark it. Never use household cleaners, solvents, or products containing alcohol or ammonia; they strip the finish and dry the hide. Condition the leather once or twice a year with a proper leather conditioner, more often in a dry or air-conditioned room, since it is drying out that causes cracking, not use. Keep the sofa out of direct sunlight, which fades and hardens leather faster than anything else, and away from direct heat. Natural marks and tonal variation in the hide are characteristics of real leather, not defects.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

In most homes, yes. It does not absorb spills the way woven cloth does, does not trap dust and allergens in a weave, wipes clean, and improves with age. The main caution is direct sunlight and dry air-conditioned rooms, both of which dry the hide - condition it once or twice a year and it will outlast any fabric.

Full grain is the outer hide with its natural surface intact - strongest, most breathable, develops a real patina. Top grain is lightly sanded and corrected, more uniform but slightly less durable. Bonded or split leather is reconstituted or lower-layer material, and it is what cracks and peels within a few years.

Hides are irregular in shape with natural variation, so panels must be cut around imperfections and matched for tone - which wastes material. On a large set, hides may need to come from the same batch. And leather cannot be eased onto a frame like cloth, so every panel must be cut precisely.

Cracking comes from drying out, not from use. Condition it once or twice a year - more often in a dry or heavily air-conditioned room - keep it out of direct sunlight and away from direct heat, and a good hide will stay supple for decades.

No, they are the signature of real leather. Natural grain variation, healed scars and slight tonal differences between panels show the hide has not been heavily corrected or coated. Perfectly uniform leather is usually heavily processed or not full grain at all.

2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9 seater, plus corner and L shape, matching single chairs and a centre table. Note that larger leather sets need hide matching across pieces, so ordering the full set together is strongly advised.
