Overview

This is a royal luxury handcrafted carved teak wood sofa finished in a single tonal champagne across frame and upholstery. The design is built around its arms: deep rolled scroll arms, button-tufted along the roll, sweeping forward and down into carved acanthus arm fronts centred on large carved rosette bosses, with bolster cushions nested into the roll. Above, a pierced carved crest rises over a lattice-quilted back panel; below, a single long bench seat cushion in damask runs the width, and a deeply pierced carved plinth spans the entire base at floor level rather than standing on legs.

The monochrome treatment is unusual and deliberate. With no colour contrast between wood and cloth, the eye reads shape and shadow instead of pattern, which makes the carving and the arm profile do all the work. It suits a formal drawing room, a farmhouse hall or a hospitality lounge. Every configuration is available: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 or 9 seater, corner or L shape.

The Story Behind This Sofa

Arm design is where comfort is decided, and there are really only three families. A straight panel arm is the cheapest to build and the least comfortable - it gives you a hard vertical edge at exactly elbow height. A scroll arm that turns outward looks elegant but sheds your arm off the outside of the curve. A rolled arm, as here, turns the top inward and downward in a wide radius, so there is a broad padded surface for an elbow at rest and a comfortable place to lie against when someone stretches out along the sofa.

Building one is considerably harder. The roll has to be shaped over a curved frame member and stuffed to hold its section under a hand rather than collapsing, then upholstered on a compound curve where the fabric has to be eased in without a single pucker. Adding button tufting along that roll, as here, multiplies the difficulty - every button pulls on a curved surface and the grid must stay parallel to the roll all the way round.

The carved arm front is then fitted so the acanthus meets the upholstered roll cleanly with no visible transition.

Factual specification for this royal luxury carved teak sofa:

  • Material: Solid teak wood frame, hand-carved (no veneer, no engineered wood in load-bearing members)
  • Style: Rolled scroll arm carved show-wood sofa, tonal champagne finish
  • Arms: Deep rolled scroll arms, button-tufted along the roll, with carved acanthus fronts and carved rosette bosses; bolster cushions nested into the roll
  • Finish: Tonal champagne across frame and upholstery; customisable to gold leaf, silver leaf, ivory and gold, or contrasting frame and fabric colours
  • Carved detail: Pierced carved crest, carved acanthus arm fronts, carved rosette bosses, full-length deeply pierced carved plinth base
  • Base: Pierced carved plinth spanning the full length at floor level rather than separate legs
  • Upholstery: Lattice-quilted back panel, single long damask bench seat cushion, scatter cushions and bolsters as photographed; fabric, velvet and genuine leather available
  • Seating: Made to order as a 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 or 9 seater, corner or L shape, with matching single chairs
  • Delivery: Pan-India, free shipping

Packaging and Transit Protection

Two elements dictate the packing here. The rolled arms are large, padded, and shaped on a compound curve - sustained pressure on a roll flattens it and creases the tufting, so both arms are protected with standoff foam blocking that bridges over the roll rather than compressing it. The floor-level pierced plinth is the most exposed carving on the piece and takes any impact when the sofa is set down, so it is foam-cradled along its entire length and the crate is built so the piece rests on its frame, never on the plinth.

The upholstery is wrapped in soft breathable cloth with a separate moisture barrier - important on a pale champagne, where a water mark is very visible. Carved arm fronts, rosette bosses and the crest are individually foam-wrapped. Bolsters and cushions are bagged separately. The sofa is corner-guarded, blocked into a fitted crate with foam on every face, marked for orientation and lifting points, and photographed sealed before dispatch.

Shipping and Delivery

Every sofa is built to order. Typical lead time is 9 to 11 weeks from order confirmation - rolled and tufted arms take longer to upholster than plain panel arms, because the cloth is eased onto a compound curve and every button must sit parallel to the roll. Larger sets take longer again, since a 7 or 9 seater is several frames built and upholstered individually. We share progress photographs after carving, after finishing and after upholstery.

Delivery is free anywhere in India - Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and elsewhere. Our team unloads, unwraps, places and levels the sofa at your address. Please confirm doorway, stair and lift dimensions in advance, and note that deep rolled arms make this sofa wider than its seat width suggests - measure to the outside of the arms, not the cushions. International orders quoted case by case.

Craftsmanship Assurance and Care

Our craftsmanship assurance covers the solid teak frame, its joinery, the carved plinth and the hand-carving. If a joint works loose or a carved element separates because of a fault in the making - rather than through impact, misuse, or an attempted self-repair - we repair or replace it. Fabric and foam are consumable components covered separately.

Rolled arms take more punishment than any other part of a sofa, because people sit on them. Do not - the roll is shaped over a curved frame member designed for leaning, not for a person's full weight, and repeated sitting will flatten the stuffing and eventually stress the frame beneath. Vacuum the roll and the tufted grid with a brush attachment, using a soft brush around the buttons. On a tonal champagne piece, marks show more than on a patterned one: blot spills instantly, straight down, never rubbing. Dust the carved crest, arm fronts and plinth with a dry soft brush. The plinth sits at floor level, so keep vacuum cleaner heads and mop handles away from the pierced carving - it is the part most often chipped in normal cleaning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

A rolled arm, like this one. A straight panel arm gives you a hard vertical edge at elbow height; an outward-turning scroll sheds your arm off the curve. A roll turns inward and downward in a wide padded radius, so it supports an elbow at rest and gives a comfortable surface to lie against.

No, and this matters. The roll is shaped over a curved frame member designed for leaning, not for a person's full weight. Repeated sitting flattens the stuffing and eventually stresses the frame - it is the most common avoidable damage on a rolled-arm sofa.

It is a tonal treatment, chosen deliberately. With no contrast between wood and cloth, the eye reads shape and shadow rather than pattern, so the carving and the arm profile carry the design. We can also build it with a contrasting frame and fabric if you prefer.

No - it sits on a deeply pierced carved plinth spanning the full length at floor level. That gives it a grounded, solid presence, but it means the plinth is the part most exposed to vacuum heads and mop handles, so clean around it carefully.

Wider than the seat width suggests, because the deep rolled arms add substantially to each side. Always measure to the outside of the arms rather than the cushions when planning a doorway or a wall - send us the tightest point on your access route and we will check it.

2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9 seater, plus corner and L shape layouts and matching single chairs. Every frame is cut to order - tell us the total seat count and your room dimensions and we will propose the combination.
