Packing Gilded Carving and Studded Upholstery

This bed has two surfaces that mark for different reasons, and the packing treats them separately. Gilded carving scuffs from any contact with an abrasive material, so every carved section is covered first in a soft non-abrasive face layer, then set into foam that has been cut to the profile of the carving, so support sits only against solid areas and the projecting scrolls and palmette crest carry no load at all. Corners, legs and the crown get additional rigid edge guards where they stand proud.

The nailhead trim is the other concern. A line of raised metal studs pressed against packing material for several days on the road will emboss itself into whatever it is touching, and worse, anything pressing back will drive the studs into the upholstery. So the trim lines are relieved with cut-out foam rather than padded flat, and no strapping is run across either buttoned panel. Everything then goes into a rigid strapped crate and the bedside chests are boxed separately with drawers immobilised. It is more packaging than the trade norm and the cost is ours.
